ceived an invitation to attend the dedica-
tion exercises of the new court house of
Pawnee county on Sept. 0. Mr. Wrights-
mnn was a member of the executive com-
mittee.
The public schools will open Sept. 2.'l,
with Prof. Theo. Shackelford as princi-
pal und Miss Mundy, N. (}. Carpenter
and Miss Hortenco Staples, of Missouri,

teachers, consequently the schools will be

Miss Kinlly Nichols returned Tuesday
from Sulpher Springs, Chickasaw nation,
where she had been for several weeks,

Sam. Mcf'orkle, the fat printer who
used to hold down the cases in the Lender
office, but who went to Kansas last spring,
will return next week and take his old
place in the Leader.
Jake Schlfr, a wealthy citizen of Gaines-
vllle, Texas, is hero purchasing cotton.
Mr. Schlfr says he Is prepared to purchase
all the Cotton lu the county and will pay
the highest market price.
J. W. Davidson, of Washburn, Texas,
Is here visiting his father-in-law, Capt. S.
J. Scott. Mr. Davidson Is much attached
to Tecumseh, and the chances are that he
will soon be one of our solid citizens.
S. Vaughn Griffin, reporter for the
Brudvtreet mercantile agency, of Kansas
City, hns been in Tecumseh all week in

The case of the Territory vs. Thomas

Mr . Kdward Duke, wife of the painter,
who lives seven miles southwest of town,
died Wednesday morning at II o'clock of
lnllamation of the bowels, after being sick
only three days. Mrs Duke was ISIS years
old and a good Woman. She leaves a
husband aud two little hoys, from 10 to
12 years old. The burial took place
Thursday evening.
The service* lit the Friends church last
Sunday Sept. 8th, were quite Interesting
and profitable, consisting of addresses by
•Mrs. William Canton and Mrs. George
Hartley, and song by little Zcllu King.
Excellent songs were also rendered by
the choir. The Sunday school convention
also accomplished good results. Both lay-
ing the good foundation for future work.
