Thomas for the otlice of
county Treaurer. Mr. Thoinas is
one of the old settlers i|i Canadian
county, coining to the territory on
the memorable - J11 d af April ^8sy.
He located 111 the town of Frisco,
where lie engaged in the grocery
business for about two years; selling
out Lis stock of goods, he bought a
claim, five miles south of Kl Reno,
wherp he has lived for the past three
years. Mr. Thomas has a well im-
proved farm and is identified w^tli
the interests of Canadian county.
He is a (inn believpr in the principles
of the democratic party and always
works for the success of the ticket.
11 is friends will urge his claims be-
fore the con vent ion and if he shall
receive the nomination he will be
assured of the hearty support of the
entire party at the polls.
The latest dispatches indicate that
a war in the oriental world is now
inevitable. Japan has been jealous
of China for a long time who has as-
sumed sovereignty over t he peninsula
of Corea Japan now demands that
China withdraw her protectorate
from that province and this js the
immediate cause of the trouble.
Great preparations are bein;* made
for war in both countries. What the
outcome of such a war would b« is
hard to siirmiM*. China has much
the greater population ami a much
larger .standing army, but Japan is
farther advanced in civilization and
iier army is equipped with all the
modern arms and accoutrements of
war, which would more than off-set
China's superior numbers. The civ-
ilized world will watch with interest
the outcome of this sanguinary strife
between two branches ol the Mon-
golian race.

the public.
A people's party man from the
north-east portion of the county,
while in town one day this week, was
passing the Democrat block and hear-
ing some one speaking up stairs,
gtopped and listened a few moments
to hear what was going on. lie only
waited a few moments until lie was
satisfied the the people's party were
holding a meeting in the room over
McDaniel 4 Oills store and immed-
iately went up to attend the meeting
but lie was badly di apointed when
he found that it was only the editor
of the Democrat in the throes of
composition, dictating an editorial,
indorsing Ralph Heaumont for con-
gress.
has not paid u dollar tax on his j
property and is no.v in court endeav- i
oring to beat the tax. Taxpayers
of Canadian county, will you be dc- j
ceived by this false cry of thief,
when the real trouble is a nigger in
the wood pile at the Democrat oilier
We claim without fear of contradic-
tion from those who know llensley
that he belongs to no organized
political party and never can be 111
harmony with any human organi/.a
tion, polit'cal or otherwise, where
either consistency or harmony are
necessary. Should anarchy gain su-
premacy and Hi rr Most become
president of the republic, llensley
would pine his life away under Mont's
s^ycrv government.

an.l said that he wi s authorized to!
make a proposition to the council in
behalf of the county that Canadian
county would pay £400-00 per year
to help maintain a system ot sewer-
age.
After discussing the question to
some length, a committee was ap-
pointed to have a survey and an es-
timate of the cost of such a system
as had been proposed. The commit-
tee will report at the next regular
meeting.
