Col. W. M. Melton.
Tho rump papers of this city are decid-
edly ugly in their remarks about Ool.
Melton, of Tecumseh, aud his action in
yesterday's convention. Col. Melton
told the mob assembled just what his
newspaper status was: that he had been
for many years an actiTe newspaper man,
and was now in close touch and active
sympathy with the fraternity through th*
Tecumseh Hkrald. lie did not claim
to be Its editor, but we venture the state-
ment that the Herald was the most ably
represented paper there. The strong,
sensible and manly utterances of Col.
Melton did not set well on the stomachs
of the gang and there is no doubt but
that the Colonel was a giant among the
mental and moral pygmies he contended
