The town tax election last Tues
day to raise the levy from 4, to
10 mills, was defeated by a vote
of 38 to 29. This is only a an
other sample of the " ignorance
and contraryness" the town is so
blessed with, because any school
boy knows that a 4 mill levy on
our $217,000, valuation, gives us
hut $808, and our interest on
bonds alone is $1830, a year.
It is now up to the court to look
after our interest fund and add
the extry cost of same, and in-
stead of geting off with the
mill levy the county excise board
ad vied us to vote, we are obliged
'o " sweeten it a little " because
some one has to feed the Judgf
and lawyers you know and Ral-
ston is always well represented.

We Cbiistians of Ralston have decided' to erect a new house of praise.
And five thousand dollars is tin* modest sum we've attempted to rnise>
The Aid Society of the Christian Church have agreed \o do their best.
And among the other things they'll do is give the "Sock Social'' a test.
This little sock we giv;you: it is not for you to wear;
Please multiply your s z • hy two, and place therein wfth care,
In penult s or in c<-nt«, ] ist twice the uurnber that you wear.
We hope it is immense)
8 > if you wear a number )o you owe us 20 secf
Which dropped within this little sock will li l our hearts with glee,
' Tis all we Ht>k, it Uu't much. and baldly any trouble.
IJ it if yououly have one fool we'll surely charge you double.
Now if you have a friend quite dear that you'd like- to'bring with you,
Or'.f you know someone who'll come, we'll gladly give you two;
«o don't forget the place and date, w^'ll answer wb n you knock,
And welcorat you with open arms but don't forget the sock.
But if the distance seems to great our social to attend,
Or care or sickness should prevent just send by some g^od ftiend,
Or our good "Uncle Ham" will brinjftho dimes we so much need,
And many thanks we'll vote to you who are a friend indeed.
Social will be held at Church October 31. «
