The following brief interviews with
different business men of Carthage,
Mo., where Charles H Smith recent-
ly put on one of his trade winning
editions for the Evening Press of that
city, give an idea of what others
think of him as a trade builder. It was
on ust such results as are expressed
here that the News made such an ef-
fort to secure Mr. Smith's services
for Shawnee merchants.
These statements from the business
men of Carthage were made volun-
tarily to a Press reporter and were
not solicited:
W. C. Thomas, president of the
Booster Club; "It is the most business
stirring propostion ever presented to
the Carthage merchants and their pa-
trons, outlining In every detail what
all Interested should do.
The St. Louis Dentists. "We con-
sider this trade edition of the Press
a good thing and we are confident that
it will be the means of bringing to
Carthage the trade which It U entitl-
ed to. and no doubt it will."
W. H. Miller, the groceryman: "1
think it is a good thing. It will ans-
wer the purpose for which it was in-
tended and is sure to be reaped la-
ter."
M. Goldstein, the Jeweler: "The
trade edition which Chas. H. Smith
got up was highly satisfactory and
will accomplish the desired results.
A. H. Osborn of the A. H. Osborn
Grocery Co.: "I think that the trade
edition filled the bill. The Press and
especially Chas. H. Smith deserves
much credit. I would like to see some-
thing of the kind oftener."
H. T. During, the dry goods mer-
chant: "It is a great showing for
Jasper county and is bound to do lits
of good. It shows why the farmer
should trade at home. Chas. H.
Smith did a good work in getting it
up."
Chas. Dumars of the Dumars music
house: "It is the best thing of the
kind ever gotten out in Carthage."
well pleased with it."
Frank Edel, the druggist: "I am

partment store "I personally have
already seen results from it It is
good."
Tom Hall of the Hall Bros. Shoe
store: "It is a good thing at the
right time."
Guy Wells of the Wells Drug Co.:
"It is undoubtedly a winner. I be-
lieve it will do a great deal of good
to the trade."
A. A. Ramsey, of the Ramsey dry
goods store: "It is a nice edition and
it will bring big results. I have al-
ready got results that I know came
from it."
R. E. L. Halliburton of the A. B.
Dutesch Clothing Co.: "It suits me
and I am favorably impressed with its
value."
F. B. Hatch, clothier: "I think the
effort of Mr. Smith is the best ever
made to boost the business of Car-
thage."
Jerry N. Taylor, the Missouri Boy:
It is a cracker Jack. It is the best
thing ot the kind ever gotten out in
the city and should have been done
before.
Cashier R. E. Frey, of the Carthage
National Bank: It has attained its
object better than any other special
edition I have even seen. It was well
thought out, was gotten up In good
shape, and was well written."
E. S. Williams, real estate and loan
agent: "If is all right."
S. B. Griswold, president of the
Commercial club: ' I think it Is good,
an d will fulfill its mission. It Is prob-
ably the best way to advertise, and
beats any other kind of edition that
can be gotten out."
J. E. Lang, cashier of the Central
National bank, "It is one o' the best
editions that I have even seen. It will
do lots of good."
G. A. Rose, of the Rose Mercantile
Co.: "I think it Is one of the best
special editions ever produced in Car-
thage. I havo been told by one former
mall order buyer that hereafter he
would trade at home. I sold him a
nice bill on the Btrength ot that edi-
tion. Many have mentioned it to me.
It has done my business lasting good
and I want another Just like it soon.
Ernest B. Jacobs of the First Nat-
ional Bank: "I consider It an instruc-,
tlve and attractive special edition."
H. P. Hall, Jeweler and music deal-
er: "It l"oks good to me. I think that
it will do the town good."
Will McCormick, of the McCormlck
Grocery Co.: "I think that it Is by far
the best advertisement for the mer-
chants that Carthage has gotten out
In years."
The Jumbo Clothing Co.: "We con-
sider the special edition a booster.
What Carthage wants is more rural
trade, and this medium will accom-
plish the desired result. Chas. H.
Smith can't have any falling out with
Jumbo when It come to giving him
our advertising. The Press did a full
stroke of busness when it secured
him to boost us merchants."

Rooming House for Rent
The German Plan.
An entirely new way to get this la
liable to be popular with the ma-
jority of women who grieve that they
can't wear the dtrectorle gown nor
its rival the Tanagra or the Botti-
celli gowns which require a slender
figure. This is the German method
which requires one to eat early and
often. There are plenty of women
who want to get thin, but they don't
like the Idea of giving up eating as
the most prescribed methods re-
quire. The German plan requires that
one eat six times a day, dieted meals
of course. This get-thin code is being
adopted by American women with sur-
prising results.
