W.G.T.U. ITEMS!
Mrs. Vallie McKee is at home again
much Improved In health. She will now
stay ^onie time, perhaps permanently.
The time of the county convention
is again chinged but it will be dur-
ing the first week of September, al-
though not o<\ the 5th as previously
announced.
The following contribution lias been
written by Mrs. S. E. Case the coun-
ty president:
"As there has been some question
why certain parties from Shawi ee vis.
ited our county seat, and the court
proceedings. I wish to make a state-

true altruistic spirit .are trying to
encourage and develop the domestic
arid social side of life. Therefore we
wanted to see for ourselves, and pass
correct judgment upon our county at-
torney and others who have sworn to
be true to their oaths of office. The
people seem to 1 lierit a disordered
nature, and have wayward moods and
unless some pressure for truth and
righteousrpss, through society, 's
brought to bear upon our executives,
we fear lax laws. Therefore, we ask
for co-operation and help from all who
would like to see us of Shnwnee, la'v

3UILDING BRIDGES ON RENTAL
PLAN.
Pawhuska, Okla.. Aug. 8.—The rent,
al plan of bridge building in Osage
county is to be followed. The plan
has been recommended by state auth-
or'tie? to the counties, where the leg il
Irv.ebtedifiss has practically reached
the limit of the tax levy of last year.
Under the rental plan coittracts can
be made with bridge companies, whers
by a certain amount may be paid
each year until the entire cost of con.
^truction is paid when the bridges are
formally turned over to the county.
In Osage con ity, as well as in oth-
ers, the spring floods washed away
many bridges. These could not be pur.
chased with funds available, and the
governor and attorney general were
appealed to for advice. The legisla
ture had adourned and there was no
plan of relief. The rental plan was
taken up as the best.
HONOR FATHER OF GYMNASTICS
Philadelphia, Aug. 8— Philadelphia
Turners today held a field day in eel

the birth of Frederick Ludwig Jahn,
the founder of modern gymnastics.
In the darkest day of Germany,
when Napoleon held Europe in his
crip, Jahn came to the conclusion
that the training of mind and bodv
was the only way to regain liberty
In 1881 he opened the flrtt gymnasium
in Germany, the Inception of the In-
ternational Turner movement.
