NEGRO CLAIMS
10 HOLD A
Jim Jamoson. a negro living 7
miles northeast, of Shawnee, was tak-
en in charge this afternoon by for n-
er Sheriff Bill Grace and turned over
to the authorities for making a gun
play. Jameson was found to be carry-
ing Jim Pierce's gun, and claimed 10
hold a commission from Sheriff Dink,
Pierce. Pierce was not In town and
Jameson was taken over to Tecumseh
that the matter might be Investi-
gated.
This afternoon a negro approached
Grace In a very badly frightened con-
dition, and said Jameson was going to
shoot him. He asked Grace to taKe
care of him, and the latter hunted
up Jameson.
It Is not known at this time whether
Jameson really holds a commission
from Pierce or not. although he told
a plausible story of how he came to
have the commission.

Through the true picture of Okla-
homa life as It was seen at the pic-
nic at Benson Park one could catch
a glimpse of familiar scenes in older
communities in easterni and northern
states where groups of people had
formed friendships that caused them
to gather in small numbers around
the tables and on the grass in the
most convenient places. Here they en-
joyed the good things which the heavy
laden baskets brought for their pleas-
ure. After the feast the spirit of the
occasion became manifest by the cheer
ing during the speches that thrll'ed
the hearers and brought to their at-
tention new thoughts as to the pur-
poses and Intentions of the men who
are laboring t6 build a greater Shaw-
nee. Lists of the members of the
commercial organizatlln were passed
among the picnickers and they were
informed as to the business men who
are giving their time and money to
build up Shawnee through organized
ecort. The attention of the peoplo
was forcibly cal'ed to the fact that to
maintain a healthy feeling that In-
spires new growth and greater efforts
on the part of business men it is ab-
silutely necessary that the public gen-
erally support in a substantial —ay
those men and those things which help
to build up the city. Every citizen 'has
the opportunity to help In this move-
ment. If the man with whom you deal
does not belone: to the Chamber of
Commerce and contribute his share
towards building up the town see to it
that he gets on the membership rolls
at once. The Shawnee Planing Mill

ber dealers that does its part in this
work. If our prices are right—we
