TORPEDO PROOF WARSHIPS.

RKTURNINO PROSPERITY
Condltioiifl throughout the country
point to an early return of prosperity.
Rank c'earlngs and railroad earnings
are below those of a year ago, but the
gap 1s narrowing. There are fewer
Idle cars than there were at the be-
glii!\i;ig of June.
"Re-employment days" are becoming
general. St. Louis had one on .Tune
first, when 15,000 Idle persons w re
put to work. On a far larger scale the
Pittsburg district has one today, when
every plant of the united States steel
corporation, the largest concern in the
world In Its field, will resume opera-
tions. The other shops of that coa-
ptation, all over the country, will, it
Is expected, ail be running by August
first. All the I'dependent steel con-
cerns In the iPttsburg district, It is
announced, will be at work with a full
force by the firnt week In August.

$8,000,000,000 mark. This, says James
W. VanOleave, president of the Na

American Industrie for July will
leave all records far behind. It will
be more than double tho value of tli •
farm yield of 1900, which was S.5 7GI-

ARE MOST STRANGE
The vagaries of the Canadian river
are most strange. As a result of it
freaks a most peculiar situation now
exists east of Shawnee.
During tho floods the rlvor appar-
ently changed Its course at the Inte
urban brldg • and cut a new chamnal
parallel to the interurban right of way
for several hundred yards, where it
again joined the old channel.
As the water falls, It is seen tha
about two-thirds of the flow Is In tli
former char<n 1 easterly from tho
bridge, but instead of following tn
old course back to the point where the
new channel Joins the old, the stream
cut "across lots," or rather two farms,
with an entirely new chann 1. leaving
an Immose island In between the flow-
ing streams.
The sitaution now is this. There
are two distinct flows one due ea-it
from tii«' iut nirban bridge, and the
other south along the track, thence
r ast In tho old channel. Then there
is the portion of the old channel per
"naps a mile long and 1m tho shape of
a flgr.* 'S" that both currents have do
sorted.
The now stream along the interur-
ban has ceased to wash the ban*
but appears to be very deep. At th
place where It leaves the old channel
at the brldg:- it is very narrow, an.i
will doubtless be easily turn d back,
which will bo necessary, not only for
the sake of tno interurban but to over
come the possibility of the outlet of
the sanitary sewer b: ing a lak
When this new current is cut off. it
will add almost a mile more to the
length of the portion which is already
qulot water, and will make an Im-
mense double horse shoe pond.

ZION CITY ANNIVERSARY.
Chicago, July 15.—Little attention
was paid by the prople of Zion City t >
the anniversary of tho founding of the
town. During the life of Jolin Alex-
ander Dowie the annivtrsary wis
marked by the "feast of the taber-
nacle," and c lebrated with great
pomp and ceremony.
Is assured you when you buy one of Dr.
Pierce's Family Medicines — for all the in-
gredients entering into them are printed on
the bottle - wrappers and attested under
oath as being complete and correct. They
are gathered from Nature's laboratory,
being selected from the most valuable na-
tive, medicinal roots found growing in our
American forests. While potent to oure;
they are perfectly harmless even to the
most delicate women and children.
Not a drop of alcohol enters into
Dr. Pierce's leading medicines. A
much better agent is used both for
extracting and preserving the me-
dicinal principles, viz.—pure triple-
refined glycerine of proper strength.
This agent possesses medicinal
properties of its own, being a most
valuable anti-septic and anti-fer-
ment, nutritive and soothing de-
mulcent
Glycerine plays an Important
part in Dr. Pierce's Golden Med-
ical Discovery in the cure of indi-
gestion, dyspepsia and weak stom-
ach, attended by sour risings,
"heartburn," foul breath, coated
tongue, poor appetite, gnawing
feeling in stomach, biliousness and
kindred derangements of the stom-
ach, liver and bowels.
For all diseases of the mucous
membranes, the "Golden Medical
Discovery " is a specific. Catarrh,
whether of the nasal passages or of
the stomach, bowels or pelvic or-
gans is cured by it. In Chronic
Catarrh of the Nasal passages, it is
well, while taking the "Golden
Medical D; eovery" for the neces-
sary con-i'tutional treatment, to
cleanse the passages freely two or
three times a day with Dr. Sage's
" Discovery" is not so good for
acute coughs arising from sudden
colds, nor must it be expected to
cure consumption in its advanced
stages—no medicine will do that—
but for all the obstinate hang-on,
or chronic coughs, which, if neg-
lected, or badly treated, lead up to
consumption, It is the best med"
icine that can be taken.
It's an Insult to your intelll-
gence for a dealer to endeavor to
palm off upon you some nostrum
of unknown composition in place of
Dr. Pierce's world-famed medicines
which are of known composition.
Most dealers recommend Doctor
Pierce's medicines because they
know what they are made of and
that the ingredients employed are
among the most valuable that a
medicine for like purposes can be
made of. The same is true of
leading physicians who do not hes-
itate to recommend them, since
they know exactly what they con-
tain and that their ingredients are
the very best known to medical
science for the cure of the several
diseases for which these medicines
are recommended.
With tricky dealers it is dif-
ferent.
