As you probably know, at the initial meeting of the Citizens Government Study
Group called by Mayor Jim Ozment last night, I was appointed temporary Chairman
to get the group organized and underway. We had a very useful discussion on
goals and objectives of this group as well as some discussion of the manner in
which it should be organized and go about its job.
Basically, the objectives of the committee were defined as being those of
checking into the City Administration and determining where reforms and
efficiencies could be instituted, reviewing city finances, determining if
additional revenues might be needed and how they might be obtained, and taking a
long-range view as to what we want our city to be. This is a very brief summary.
I am enclosing a copy of the notes taken during this meeting which cover these
items in more detail.
Accordingly, the people listed below were appointed to this committee. Since the
work must be done on very short notice, in most cases alternates are indicated.
With regard to organization, several ideas were discussed and it was decided that
this should be turned over to an organizational committee. The task of this
committee is to come up with a proposed organizational structure for this study
group and a proposal for the method of staffing the organization.
