cal condition is good. The experience is a wonderful
one and under some circumstances full of m-naco. I.Irs. 1'ink-
haui, of Lynn, Mass., will give you her advice without«harge.
She has done so much for women,
surely you can trust her. Read
this letter from Mrs. M. C. Grif«
fing, of Georgeville, Mo.: I
i" "Dear Mrs. Pinkham:—The
doctor called my trouble ulcera-
tion of womb and change of life.
1 was troubled with profuse flow,
ing and became very weak. When I wrote to you I was.down
in bed, had not sat up for six months; was under a doctor's
treatment all the time, but it did ine no good. 1 had almost
given up in despair, but your Vegetable Compound has made
me feel like a new woman. I cannot thank you enough I
would advise any woman who is afflicted as I have been to
write to Mrs. Pinkham, at —
Lynn, Mass., and get her ad-
vice and be cured as I have
been."
Mrs. F. H. ALLEN, 419 Ne-
braska Ave., Toledo, Ohio,
writes:
"Dear Mrs. Pinkham:—
Change of life was working on
me. My kidneys and bladder
were affected. I had been
confined to the house all sum-

on my feet for anyp^?fJ5

realize that such a wonderful cure is possible. Lydia E. Pink-

Don t wait until you are prostrated with the mysterious con-
dition known as "Change of Life." Get Mrs. Pinkham's ad-
vice and learn how other women got through.

DOG CAPTIVE OF A WILD CAT.
Kept Prisoner In a Hole Until Ills
Ma.ter Shot the Cut.
A week ago Frank Atlone, a farmer
living on the outskirts of Cornel clam,
in Westchester county, missed his val-
uable fox terrier dog Gyp, and all ef-
forts to trace the animal were ineffec-
tual, Todaj when out hunting in the
thick woods near Croton lake Farmer
Atlone found the tracks of a dog. A
short distance further he caught a
glimpse of a wildcat, which darted up
a tree. A moment later he heard the
weak bark of a dog and then a head
was shoved out of a hole in the rocks
under the tree. It was Gyp. The dog,
valued at $100, was literally a living
, skeleton, and could hardly walk. Part
of his hair was also missing from his
back. Farmer Atlone immediately
came to the conclusion that the wild
cat had driven Gyp into the hole and
I kept the brute in captivity with a view
of starving him to death. He fired both
I barrels of his shotgun at the feline,
which was about to leap upon him, and
blew his head off. As soon as Gyp saw
the dead cat he wagged his tail and
barked.
trying to make gold.
Back in the forests of Jefferson coun-
ty, New York, in a cave, lives aged
Willoughby Burnapp, who has spent
nearly forty years in an attempt to
discover the secret by which gold can
be made out of baser metals. He has
not only grown old in the strange
task, but he has also grown queeir, for
ihe acts strangely and talks queerly.
His appearance is that of a patriarch,
with white flowing beard and matted
hair. Forty jears ago the craze of al-
chemy revived in the farmlands of Jef-
ferson county. Willoughby Burnapp
and his young wife lived happy and
prosperously those days. But when
the craze for gold-making came Bur-
napp was one who abandoned the plow
for the crucible. His kitchen became
a laboratory. WitH him the craze never
died. By day he poured over his queer
book and by night the kitchen cruci-
j bles burned bright with evil fires. Fin-
ally his wife died, his farm was sold,
and Burnapp, now grown old In his
fruitless effort to solve the question
of gold-making, took up his abode in a
mountain cave, far removed from any
other habitation of man. Here he
lives and pours over his books, and
makes experiments—all without" suc-
cess. The golden secret is apparently
as far from his reach as it was the day
that he left the plow for the crucible.
But the old man is determined. All he
wants, all he asks, is to be let alone
