set her spirit free, then, and possibly
not until then, in a happy reunion,
will she understand why the true,
noble, devoted, Christian husband,
Judge and gentleman should have
his life so ended. It may be that
it was God’s way of ending the
story more perfect than Man s.
So, today, in "0001118100, let us
miogle our thoughts of the great
pcet wheo he said—
'Sleep, oh, sleep!
The Shepherd guardeth his sheep.
Fast speedeth the night away,
Soon cometh the glorious day:
Sleep weary ones while ye may,
Sleep, oh, sleep!’
The flowers within God’s Acre see
that fair and wonderous sight,
And hear the angels singing to the
sleepers through the night;
And, lo! throughout the hours of day
those gentle flowers prolong
The music of the angels in that

Your Honor, Members of the Bar, ’
Friends:—
Words cannot portray, nor lan-
guage delineate the splendid life and
character of this still more splendid
man! An able advocate, a safe coun-
sellor, a devoted student of the law,
a just Judge, a patriotic citizen an
upholder of the Constitution, honest,
fearless, kind, affectionate, good—an
upright, Christlike Christian gentle-
man—these words do, only in a fee-
ble way, carry in their meaning the
real worth of our deprated brother,
the late, lamented E. M. Probasco,
whom this community and his breth-
ren at the bar of this county and at
the bar of this Commonwealth have
lost—no not lost—but from whom i
this community and the members of
our beloved profession, have, for a
brief span, by the will of Divine
Providence, been sparated.
It is not my purpose, at this time, j
to go farther into the details ef his I
life—it was as an open book always |
before us to be read by each and all.
Let us leave him in the Democratic
City of the Dead—the Cemetery—
the only real and true Democracy in 1
the world—to await the final trump
call at the resurrection mom, real-
izing. as we do, “that it is not all1
of life to live nor all of death to die,”
and turn our thoughts for a few
brief moments to those who still live.
Our hearts go out in sympathetic
tendreness to his sorrowing wife-
widowed by his sad and untimely de-
mise, for full well we know that it
is only too true that she has lost the
most dear and valuable companion of
her declining years. But after all, j
the reflection comes, may it not be
truthfully said that it is the will of
Divine Providence and of Nature,
that our mortal bodies shall be laid
aside, where th eimmortal f.pirit that
dwells therein is prepared to enter
into immortal life—real life! Mortal

given, that a way is provided by
which we may get rid of them. This
way so provided is Death! He who
quits the body parts at once with all
pain, all possibilities of pain, suf-
fering and disease forever.
This kind and affectionate husband,
precious as we know he was to the
faithful companion of his bosom
whom he held so dear in. this life,
has been invited upon a journey of
pleasure which shall last forever. In
the home and by the fireside his
chair is vacant first, and he has
gone before her. It may be that it
was not convneient that they should
start together; and why should , her
grief be uncontrolled at this, since,
under God’s eternal plans, she is to
follow’ soon, and knows full well just
where to find him?

life on earth is but an undeveloped
state—a preparation for real living.
No man is completely born until he
be dead. We being spirits, why
should we mourn and lament that a
new child is born among the immort-
als—a new member added to their
sorrowless society ? It is a most be-
nigh and benevolent act on the part
of the Creator that He provides and
furnishes us w’ih bodies, while they
can afford us pleasure, assists us in
acquiring knwoledge, or doing good
to our fellowbeings; and it is equally
benign, fitting and lienevolent upon
the part of the same Great Being
