Lother, in a snug cabin in the moun-

Winchester, is probably the only worn-

In speaking of the occurrence after-

bear gave her.
Mrs. Lother was busy in her kitchen
when the bear, probably attracted by
the smell of cooking, stuck his nose

! was to the door, did not turn, thinking
that her husband, who had gone to ' •
mountains after turkey, was ate:
up behind hor to give her a kiss.
"Oh, John! Your awful whiabors!"
she exclaimed, without looking up,
whan a shaggy head brushed her
cheek.
Then Mra. Lother felt two strong
arms encircle her waist, and she gave
a grunt that evidently pleased the
hugger, for the clasp was tightened.
"John you hug like a bear!" she ex-
claimed, and, twisting in the embrace,
she looked squarely into the face ol
bruin.
"You onery brute!" yelled the wom-
an, swinging her dishpan in her sur-
prise and disappointment on the back
of bruin's head.
She followed up this advantage with
a flatiron from the stove, seizing a
momeift later upon a formidable poker,
with which she prodded bruin so vig-
orously that the surprised bear sought
safety in flight.
When Lother returned home a lit-
tle later he found his wife calmly
arranging her hair, as if nothing had
happened.

Bath Kills Woman of Ninety-Five.
Bellefontaine, O.—To the first bath
since her childhood days physicians
here ascribe tho illness which ended
the life of Mrs. Naucy A. Neaston, 95
years old.
She was taken to the Logan county
infirmary two weeks ago from her
home in Monroe township, and there
was forced to plunge into a bathtub
of warm water and soapsuds. She pro-
tested vainly.
"I've not been in water since a
child. J took my last bath in St.
Mary's river, and can't stand water
now!" she cried.
A chill came over her soon after she
emerged, and she took to her bed with
what the physicians pronounced pneu-
monia, from which she died.
Boy Bites His Teacher.
Roonville, Ind.—Bennie Hunter, a
schoolboy of the Baker school, three
miles west of this city, in Warrick
county, was fined $12 in a justice of
the peace court here because he
fought and bit his school teacher,
causing the back of her right hand to
become inflamed and symptoms of
blood poisoning to set in.
It was Bennie's second year in
school. He was discovered making in-
roads on his desk with a pocket knife.
With her hand clutching his collar,
the teacher propelled the lad to the
fore of the room, and in the battle for
possession of the knife the youth sunk
his teeth into her hand.
