Kansas City Star: Tho report of
the Cherokee Commission has been
in the hands of Secretary Noble live
<lays, but for some reason unknown
he delays sending it to congress,
and when it reaches that body u is
expected that there will be an at-
tempt made to defeat the treaty.
Objection will be made on tlie
ground that the Commission exceed-
ed its authority, having agreed to
pay the Indians ti.4;i an acre for the
land instead of SI.25 as stipulated
in tho act ot Congress. This objec-
tion is trifling and exposes those
who support it to the criticism they
seek to delay in the interest of cat-
tlemen and others who desire the
continued use and profit of this vast
area of public domain. The people
want the opening delayed no longer.
The difference of eighteen cents an
acre is a trifle compared with the
benefits the country will derive from
the sarly opening of tlie Strip, anil
a bill'approving the purchase should
be prepared and pusfied through
oongress at once. One member of
the house wants a notice of sixty
days given before the new country
is thrown open. No notice is nec-
essary. The people had due notice
when the treaty was formed at Ta-
hlequah and will bo ready to lake
possession the day the president
shall give them permission by pro
ulatnatioa.
