IMPEACHMENT OK TRAPP
Charges broad and sweeping in
scope have been filed In the Okla-
homa house of representatives against
I Ed Trapp the lieutenant governor
of the state.
Coupled with these charges is car-
ried the recommendation that im-
rpeaehment' proceedings be filed im-
peachment proceedings which would
automatically remove the defendant
from office as the second in power
to the executive head the presiding
officer of the state's highest legisla-
tive body the man who would in
event of the death of the governor
or his removal from office for uny
cause become the governor of . this
Etate.
If Liautenant Governor Trapp has
been guilty of any of the offenses
with which he is charged in the find-
ings of the house committee then no
matter what his political faith and
affiliation may be he should be re-
moved from office.
Oklahoma has passed beyond the
wild and wooly days when the gun
man held sway and when a man's
political ability was measured by his
smoothness in sucking eggs and hid-
ing the shells. The day of the border
ruffian of the cattle rustler of the
train robber in Oklahoma has passed.
So also has passed the day of the
corruptionlst in politics of the poli-
tical grafter of the man who prosti-
lues his office and betrays the trust
Imposed In him by his constituents
by stooping to dishonesty and tliiev-
try. Law ond order has supplanted the
lawlessness of territorial days and
the man of integrity has we trust
taken the place of the political trick-
ster and corruptionist. Penal insti-
tutions have been built In this state
in : which to confine those whom the
courts decree guilty nf offense against
the dignity of the commonwealth and
the safety rf the general public. To
these
penal Institutions should be
committed the criminal of the state I
no matter if those criminals come
from tho rank and file of the sordidly
illiterate or from the. rumps of those
t-' if ted with rnligtined minds and quick
ti tul educated intellects. If guilty the
highest nnd hitherto most honored
man should lie garbed in the stripes

And they should remember that the
Republicans of Oklahoma rode Into

was fattened upon charges of ras-

to unearth fraud and corruption. They
should also remember that not so

matter whether tho cards be dealt :
from the top the bottom or the I Coalgate according to newspapers

It is not for The Ardmoreite to say
whether the lieutenant governor of
Oklahoma is guilty as charged In the
indictment contained in the commit-
tee's report his guilt or Innocence
must be determined after regular
process of law.
It is not for The Ardmoreite to say
whether the Republican-controlled com-
mittee has found real evidence of
corruption practiced by the second
officer of the state or has manipu-
lated facts and juggled figures to
bring about the political advancement
of the "O. O. P." in Oklahoma.
Cut it is for The Ardmoreite to
say that if he is guilty as charged
in tho committee report Ed Trapp
should be punished with the same
sterness which an outraged justice
would mete to the lowest criminal
while if he Is not guilty if he is a
victim of a political frame-up his
traducers should be scourged and
made to feel the weight of the law's
hand tor the greatest criminal known
to civilization is the one who steals
the good name of a fellow man.
LET THE GOOD WORK PROCEED
The present management of this
paper has consistently held that if
Sheriff Garrett was properly notified
and properly co-operated with he
could and would prevent lawlessness
in tin til fields and in this section
of Carter county.

We aro all building a soul-housc
for eternity; yet with whut different
architecture and whut various care!
What if a man should sea his neigh-

him "what nre you building?" And
he should answer "I don't exactly

come of it." And so. wulls rush up

to see what the effect will be. Such
builders will never dwell In "tho
house of God" not made wl:h hands

for character building is of only two
classes. The successful building is
of g'old silver nnd precious stones
which mean the pure and wholesome
uuctrines of our Lord the Christ
which are jjorfect and complete not
being subject to alteration by man
however sincere ho may be. The un-
successful building material is ot

OPTIMISM REIGNS
(From Pawhuska Capitol)
In .the faeo of continued slumps In
prices as industries and trade defla-
tion progresses it is noticeable that
there is an encouraging nolo of op-
timism by leading manufacturers and
business men. 'Ohe period tho coun-
try Is now pissing through was dis-
counted in advance by men familiar
with il'hb operations or economics.
Most merchants had stocked up
heavily with high-priced goods and
met unseasonable weather last fall.
But business men now rculizo that
they were guilty ot an error of judg-
ment lii (proceeding on tho assump-
tion that high-level prices would hold
up ithroug'ii the present winter. Bit-
terness against the federal reserve
board which followed its action in
"tightening up" on money has given
way to a realization that this wjs the
only effective way of stopping infla-
tion of prices ttnd of reducing them
to ithe level on which a rcsumpthm
of industrial and trade activities
could bo based.
There is yet much to bo dono in
the work of readjustment but a be-
ginning 'has ben mode and there is
reason to believe that recovery is now
gotting under way. Predictions ithat
workers would refuse to accept now
conditions are now seen to liuve been
unfounded.
Nothing is to be gained by enlarg
ing on i!he condition ot unemploy-
ment but all should join in the
spread of optimism for a great dear
will depend on tho state ot mind in
which the notion approaches solution
of the industrial problem. The prin-
cjple ot psychology functioned in
bringing recent conditions about; it
should operate to foelp in overcoming
them. i

HEAR JUDGE ISSUE
FATEFUL ORDERS
Monday afternoon in district court
Judge Thomas W. Champion promul-
gated an order to the sheriff that
caused the eyes of those in the great
audience to fill with briny tears and
many a sigh from the depth of the
heart was latidible as the fateful
words were pronounced that put out
ot existence forever a largo quantity
of "jazz" water that ihas been se-
curely hickod in tho vault of the
sheriff's office for some time.
The sheriff and bis minions have
been capturing" all manner of Joy
juice and nnrcotic powders afld pills
for quite a while and as the stuff
has accumulated to such on extent
that it was becoming a nuisance the
court decided ithat the sewer was tiio
proper place for the whole bunch and
so ordered the sheriff to commit It
to tho same.
The collection enumerated by the
court in his order to tho sheriff con-
sisted of fifteen barrels ot "Jake"
In gallon bottles; several cases of
wine of pepsin said ito contain enough
kick to make a fulminating cap appear
as a gentle fire cracker; thirty gallons
of unother brand of "Jake" shipped
in the wood (in order to ago iropcr-
ly); five cases containing small
bottles of more "Jake" put up in
convenient sizes to slip from the hip
to tho consumer; some rudo looking
alcohol with a wooden cast or coun-
tenance also in glnss containers and
a qtmntity of "hop" of various brands
and aliases that cause tho sleigh bells
to Jingle for some even in the balmy
month tf Juno.
All this the sheriff was nbjured In
solemn tones 'md with more solemn
meln by the court to commit ito the
open sewer in the presence of wit-
nesses and forever obliterate from
the landscape of our fair city. Accord-
ing to instructions of the court the
sheriff will follow instructions o tho
letter and there will be ix lot of dead
fish frogs and faunae along the creek
that leads from tho outlet of the sewer
southeast of tho city.
The sheriff wvis called from the city
early this morning but as soon as
he returns the last sad rites over
the stuff will be fulfilled according to
the order ot the court and in accord-
aiico of tho statutes of the state of
Oklahoma made and provided.
