A BO IT TO TAX TIIK I'll OIT OV
KXISTKXCK IN ARDMORK
The hlth cost of living has hit tho
I'up.
This fact was made evident at the
regular meeting of the board of city
commissioners Hlday mght When
officer Mack Pettitt appeared before
the board and asked that the tax
on dogs be raised fro mthe present
rate of $1.00 to double that amount
or more it the board saw fit to raise
the ante.
The commissioners advised the of-
ficer to wait until Tuesday night and
the matter would be taken up and
the price fixed In accordance with
other luxuries of the present day.
The commissioners made It clear
that the tax would be raised all
right and so Gwendolines' Pekinese
Harold's rabbit hound and Bill's Bos-
ton Bull; will cost their respective
owners more the coming fiscal year
than they did In tho ono Just about
to end.
The law will be framed with a
view of getting rid of a lot of worth-
less curs thul Infest the city and
make night hideous with their mourn-
ful walling.
It keeps one oftleer busy to look
after the dog tax arid rush out ev-
ery once In a while to exterminate
one that shows a tendency to be-
come mad.
For that reason city officials be-
lieve that If the tax is raised suf-
ficiently high it will eliminate a lot
of worthless pups.
Scottish Rite Concert.
Arrangements have been perfect-
ed by lueal Scottish T.ite Masons to
bring down the full Scottish Kite
choir from MeAlester who will give

tins evening at tight o'clock.
This choir is otu- of the best musi-
cal organizations In the Southwest
Scottish Kite degrees at MeAlester
is one of the most Impressive features
of the degrees. For sometime an ef-
fort has been made by local Masons
to bring this elixir to .Ardmore fur
the benefit of Ardmore citizens gen-
erally but various circumstances have
prevented them coming prior to this
time.
There are several hundred Scot-
tish itite Masons in Ardmore and
Carter county. and it is expected
that many of them will be present
at this concert. An earnest invita-
tion however is extended to tho
public to attend.

day before Judge Foell of superior
court to argue for an interpretation of
the twentieth article in the Marshall
Field will.
The article provides that two-fifths
of the residuary estate should go to
Marshall Field ill. two-fifths to Hen-
ry Field and one-fifth to Gwendolyn
Field provided they all reached the
uge of 50. Upon the death of any
with Issue the share was to be held
in trust for the children until they
reached 21.

Judge Roell will be asked to con-
strue the term "issue" as to whether
"legal issue" was meant or any is-
sue. Marshall Field lit. contends In the
present action that the share of
Henry Field should be turned over

Wednesday Muy 12 has been made

endar this year
The Civic Ieaue has set this day
aside anil dedicated It to Hose Hill
cemetery.
All Tsons who have lots in Rose
Hill are requested to clean them off
nicely either on that day ur prior
thereto.
All persons who ore so Inclined
nnd who desire to do so are re.
quented to meet at the cemetery
Wednesday morning nt 8:30 for the
purpose of devoting the day to work.
Tho city will be grading the streets
of the cemetery
Tom Howell will be overseer for
the day.
The small house at the entrance
will be moved to a lot which hus
Wn given tho league by O. 8. Bai-
ley A steel fenco will be built across
the north side of the cemetery nnd
un attractive entrance will bo made.
This work will be doue at an op-
portune cost nf $3000.
Public spirited men have already
contributed toward this fund and oth-
er moneys will be received.
President Mrs. Foster and other
officers of the league feel that the
funds will bo forthcoming.
They feel that the Importance of :
the work justifies donations to carry I
out the projects alreudy started.
The league will employ a uiun to
work during the mouth of June to t
keep the Weeds down and following ;
the close of this fiscal year the city
will make ample provision to take
care cf the cemetery.
Hut if this work Is doue this year
it must be done by private subscrip-
tions. The degree of difference between
the civilized man and the uncivilised
is demonstrated in the care given
the dead.
