Under the new election laws enacted
by the 1913 legislature, Governor Cruce
is contended that an honeet election
depends upon whether the Governor
Is straight or crooked.. which fastens
upon Governor Cruce responsibility for
ihe purity of 1913 elections In Oklahoma.
He is quoted as tmying:
"Under the new election laws the
Governor is absolutely free to name

board, wbiah constitutes a majority.

Stick to Farming, Boys.
You'd better stick to fa.ining, boys,
and bdw and reap nnd pitch, than go to
City with their poise, expecting to get
rich. The cities now are overrun with
men. all seeking joos, who left good
farms to have some fun in cities "play-
ing nobs." To Bhow the rubes a thing
or two. and come a-strutting back, too
rich to know just whit to do with all
their gold in MCiia, bat while they liv-
ed in city styl^ and through they'd win
with ease, and felt so sure they'd win
a pile, they lost their golden fleece.
I knov^the farm is very hurd on boys
as well as men but when it comes to
meat and lard and now and then a hen
and cakes and p:es and all things nice
to satisfy your needs they can't be
bought at any price one half so ftvsh
anil sweet. And then you have such
appetites no millionaire enjoys; vour
mother's cooking is just right to please
such growing ooys, and then your
muscles are so firm, your shoulders
broad and square that city lads would
like to learn a rule for training theirs,
then don't get milled and run away to
seek an easy lite. Improve-the farm
from day to day and some day take a
wi'e who is a:I love and soul and tnitid
and plum chuck full of mirth; then do
your part you'll surely find a heaven

though there are to mo notable ssoep-

have not been primarily remunera
tive, nor followed with any such pur-
pose or expectation. Often, on the
contrary, their llmltaUons for mate-
rial aggrandizement are clearly and
severely outlined beforehand to those
engaging in them. But bo it is with
many of the most useful and truly
rrultfnl fields of endeavor. While
laudable money-making Is not to be
decried, the real rewards of merit
more often come in other kinds of
coin. By a harsh combination of cir
cumstances which fate seems to im-

In remote Alpine hamlets and vil-
lages, especially In the Bernese Ober
land, there sUll exist ancient and pret-
ty customs of proposing marriage by
the language of flowers. If a maid
accepts a bouquet of edelweiss from
a man she at the same Ume accepts
htm as her flanoe, the Idea being
that the man has risked his life to
obtain the flowers for the woman he
loves. Another method which existB
in the canton of Glarua is for the
young man to place a flower pot con-
taining a single rose and a note on
the window sill of the girl's room
when she Is absent from home and
iiit—perhaps day —for a i«ply. If
the maid takes the rose the young
man boldly enters the house to ar-
range matters with her parents, but
If the rose Is allowed to fade away
the proposal Is rejected without any
words having been exchanged be-
tween the couple. Sometimes a fickle
girl will keep a young man waiting a
day or two for an answer, but what-
ever it may be it 1b considered final.
This method of buying saves all expenses
of the middleman. We buy our LUMBER
from the man who gets it direct from the
forest; our MILLWORK direct from the
manufacturer; we get our CEMENT direct
from the plant and our COAL direct from
the mine operator. This system means a
big saving to you and enables us to sell
you anything in the building line at the
very lowest price possible. We are head-
quarters for ^ranieries, header barges and
