Lonufelluw, edtitled 'The Bridge.
The program committee then
gave us a Hist rical contest. Af
ter puzzling our brains for soma
time, it was found that Mrs. Dav-
is and Mrs Ttdd had answered
the most questions, and each was
presented a book of Longfellow's
works.
After spending a short time in
conversation, and eating nice red
apples, with which our hostess so
kindly treated us, we departed for
our bomes, to meet again in two
weeks with Mrs. Louie Demieville.
Best Place to Uve
By looking over theratee of tax
ation for the different towns of
this oountry, we notice that Mar
amec rune its business and con
ducts it's affairs with less expense
to the tax payer than any town in
Pawnee county by a great deal.
We futher notice that some towns
of this county pay for city tax a
lone, ten times as much as we do.
Now isu't this some inducement to
come to Maramec to make your
home? We have good schools,
nice clean, well drained streets,
good churches, an orderly people
and plenty of good accommodating
merchants to trade with. Come
a d live with us, bee >me citizens
of our town, and be opnvineed.

Ed Casteel is this week building
a large ice house, which he is fil-
ling with ice to be used during
the coming summer This ie a
much needed improvement to Mar
amec and one that ought to rs
eeive the commendation of every
oizizen who is iutsrested in the
city's welfare. By this means sev-
eral men were given employment
that would otherwise be idle, and
is the keeping of money at home
that would have been set out of
town for this ice next summer.
Notice to City Council
Notice is hereby given that a
call meeting of the city council
will bo held at the Monitor offioe,
Saturday evening at 7:30 o'olook,
to attend to business now on hand.
