"There are some tilings, not
generally appreciated by people,
that tend farther than anything
else to build a city.
"When people so far forget
themselves as to remember that the
prosperity of others helps to make
a town it good place to live in and
do business in," says the Lawton
Republican, "a long step is taken
towards building a city. When
people forget their principle and
send to Chicago 1 buy for ninety
cent'* what tlic\ could purchase at
home for 1 dollar a long step is
taken in the direction of making a
village.
"A thing that will do more than
a bonus to draw capital to a place
is knowledge that a town isclanish
so to speak: lhat is business men
pt.il together unselfishly for the
common good; lhat they spend
their money at home, are protec-
tionists in the sense that they will
pay a tar?ff on home goods in order
to build up the infant industries in
town..
' There are men in every town
who are >0 short sighted and so
lacking i:i public spirit that they
don't rec'ogni/.e these facts and it is
only a question of time when they
lire out of business. Either they
are so many that the town becomes
a village and they are weeded out
or they are so few that the town
become.; too big for them and they
are eliminated."
. The above is a true statement of
facts, but happily our little city is
utmost entirely free from the short
sighted man who will not patronize
horn entorprizes more willingly
than out-of-town concerns, there-
lore, the result is plainly visible
and indeed prominent, in that
Mooreland is fast becoming a city
of no mean size and that our citi-
zens, without a single exception,
are prosperous. If our citizens
continue "clanish" — pulling to-
gether for the common good—it
will only l>e a matter of a few short
years until Mooreland will be the
metropolis of western Oklahoma.
A movement is on foot in this
city for the organization of a stock
company for the purpose of errect-
. ing a $5,000.00 hotel building.
The plan is almost sure to be car-
ried through and the building will
be located on a proiuent lot. This
will be a valuable addition to our
town and something that we are
badly in need of.
Prime Minister Balfour in a
speech at Glasgow said that Eng-
land's dependence for j>eaee was in J

Well now, this is winter for sure.
Our country has been snow bound
for a week.
The U. S. mail to Haskew has
been delayed or failed to arrive at
all, all through the bad weather.
Mr. McMahill is making prepar-
ations to return to Illinois.
Mr. Butcher is improving and
we hope to sec him out again. He
has been having quite a hard time
since his rturn from the springs.
There has been som? loss of
stock in this neighborhood during
the recent bad weather.
Paul Roper has purchased H. H.
Mill's threshing outfit and is at
present engaged in threshing kaffir
corn and cleaning broom corn seed.
Ben Gray is with us again look-
ing better than when he left and
as jovial as ever.
Prof. Britton gives another of
his fine entertainments at the
