More than four months have gone
by. Can it point to a single ac-
complishment? It is republican in
both branches. The house, over
whelming republican, has made Mr.
Reed, a leader of the republican
party, speaker. Kepuhlicmis have

senate. Tho party is in legislative
power as a protest against hard times,

the country is suffering. Give to
the country a republican congress
and watch for the instant iireperation
of panaceas for public ills?
Well, where are tlm results? Mr.
Reed has held congress down to a
do-nothing policy. 11a lias pre-
vented the members from indulging
their desire fur immediate extrava-
gance by permitting such legislation
in approprsatinn lulls as will lead to
extravagance when the election is
over. Hut appropriation bill are
matters of course. Thev form no
