LUTHER LANGSTON
Secretary-Treasurer oklahoma State Federation of Labor
Member Oklahoma City Typographical Union No. 283
The report of the secretary treasur-
er of the Oklahoma State Federation
of Labor, which has just been mailed
out, shows what can be accomplished
if men entrusted with the affairs of
any business enterprise will only do
their duty. Mr. Langston has certainly
"made good," and shown the labor
world that he is possessed with de
ability to "do things." He will make
some of the "old school" leaders sit
up and take notice before his first
term expires. Think of the phenom-
enal progress of the Federation since
this young man took charge of the of-
fice of secretary-treasurer. He took
the office with the treasurer depleted,
the membership disgusted and the or-
ganization rent in twain by factional
strife. How different now. Absolute
harmony prevails, the federation out
of debt, and the membership more
than threbled—all In the short space of
four short months.
The Labor News has not always
agreed with the secretary, but it is
our motto to "Give unto Caesar the
things which are Caesar's" and we are

Joseph Prevost Deniei that
He Entered Into Any Deal
With J. Harvey Lynch
to "Work the
Dagoes
Coalgate, Okla.. Dec IS, 1907.
Editor Oklahoma Labor News, Ok-
lahoma City, Okla.
Dear Madam: The publication of
a letter which supposedly was found
on the body of 1). K. Rankin the late
cashier of the Merchants & Planters
bank of Lawton, Okla., does me a
great injustice. In that letter 1.
Harvey Lynch writes that I was to
"work" the .agoes' and Induce them
to invest in his oil company. There
was not a scintilla of truth In such
statement and it was an invention
of a grafter to lure nnd. induce an-
other grafter to back up his Bcheine.
Coalgate is a labor center. The
miners are well organized and at one
time we had confidence in J. Harvey
Lynch.
When he organSzed his oil company
and put my name in its articles of
incorporation 1 had no knowledge *f
it. The first lim' thai I knew tnat
l^Was U*. -directors
was when a newspaper man oT^rrfflr^V'
city called my attention to it. His
use of my name was unwarranted |
and unauthorized and this last act
of his has made Harvey Lynch a
stench in the nostrils of the labor
people of this part of the country.
Union labor line all nations,
churches, and .organizations have
their Benedict Arnold's and the lab-
oring people of the state of Okla-
homa have found theirs.
To the labor unions of Oklahoma
and the country, I wish to say that
never by word or deed have I en-
tered into Lynch s schemes and I
desire that you give this, my state-
ment, as wide publicity as the letter
that Lynch wrote to the late de-
faulting cashier.
JOSEPH PREVOST.
willing to recognize merit wherever
we see It. He may make mistakes, and
perhaps he will, but none of us are
perfect. Too many union men are in-
clined to knock when they should
boost, and usually the knnever Is the
inferior of the one being knocked.
We bespeak for the Federation a
most successful year and look forward
to the next convention, which will
undoubtedly be the greatest assem-
blage of labor ever held In the south-
west. All unions, no matter of what
craft, should rally to the Federation, I
support it and send delegates to the j
next convention, which will b«' held in !
August of the coming year. The pol- '
icy of the administration is; Get to- !
gether; egitate, educate and do j
things."
