loose from what they fondly believe
to he nil Idea.
After about five miles of this the
driver of tho machine had an oppor-
tunity of passinp and dirt so. When
he had traveled a llttlo farther an
idea struck him that It was time for
a little missionary work and ho went
after it In this manner.
Coming to a slow speed he nllowed
the wagon to overtake him he then
in the must polite manner Invited
the old Rent Ionian to come and ride
with him and let tho boys navigate
the mules. The old man never hav-
ing decorated the seat of nn auto was
not long In acreptinp the Invitation
and so after he had liphted Mm pood
cigar the owner had piven him. he
sank his ample form In the cushions
and proceeded to enjoy life. The
owner of the machine was nt that
time in a section of the county where
there is a pretty fair road and as he
"threw the juice" to the old mill
the scenery hepan to flit by rapidly.
They were not lonp In coming be-
hind another wapon similar to the
one owned by the pentlcman who was
now enjoying the hospitality of the
motor car owner and like the guest
the driver of the second wapon
chanced to be a "road hog." The
driver of the car said nothing but
it was evident that the old gentle-
man was about to explode when he
could stand It no longer he shouted
to the owner of the car to "rut loose"
ano1 take a few wheels of the
wapon in front of them.
This was Just what the owner of
the car was waiting for. He dis
covered instantly that he had "his
dope mixed ripht." and then pro-
ceeded to plve the old man a quiet
lecture on the rules of the road and
the courtesy due one gentleman from
another.
The old man listened in silence and
then reached forth his hand saying
M at he acknowledged his guilt had
hem practicing this orv stunt from
the time the first car appeared in the
county but from now on was going
to see that the road was kept clear
for automoMles who were traveling
wnhin the bcunds of the law. and had
about concluded that there was noth-i:u-

The Speech Courteous
TELEPHONE courtesy means more than
mere politeness. It means consideration for
the feelings and convenience of others.
This is just as important in business as in
social intercourse.
It is well to remember that in a telephone
conversation the party to whom you are talking
forms his judgment of you entirely by what you
say and how you say it.
Good manners and amiability never fail to
make a favorable impression and greatly facili-
tate good telephone service.
