Campaign Goddess of Liberty.
New York Oct. 20. Naomi Chold-
ers the Jeanne dArc of the motion
picture sen-en has become the God-
dess of Liberty in tho campaign for
the reelection of President Wilson.
In a letter to the national committee
she announced her militant democ-
racy and expressed a desire to aid
in getting votes for tho president.
The members of the committee
who had seen Miss Childers in many
of her delightful characterizations
decided she was an Ideal Miss Col-
umbia and that her classic features
shown in a motion picture with the
American colors would bring any au-
dience to Its feet.
The first step In the adoption of
Miss Childers by the Democratic par-
ly was to have her poso for tho Cod-
doss of Liberty militant proud and
free. The picture was a great BUc-
vess and from now on until the close
of the campaign all Wilson picturos

A SIMPLE SAFE RELIABLE WAY
Peoplo who are over-burdened with
superfluous fat know only too well
the discomfort and ridicule that over-
stout people have to bear.
If you are carrying around five or
ten pounds of unhealthy fat you are
unnecessarily weakening your vital
organs and are carrying a burden
which destroys the beauty of your
Dgure.
There is no need of Bnyone suffer-
ing from superfluous fat. If you
want to reduce your weight In a
simple safe and reliable way with-
out starvation diet or tiresome ex-
ercise here is a test worth trying.
Spend as much time ns you can In
tho open air breathe deeply and get
from tho City Drug Store or any
good druggist a box of oil of koreln
capsules; take one after each meal
and one before retiring at night.
Weigh yourself once a week so as
to know Just how fast you aro losing
weight and don't leave off the treat-
ment or even skip a single doso until
you aro dow n to normal.
Oil of koreln Is absolutely harm-
less Is pleasant to take and helps
digestion. Kven a few days' treat-
ment has been reported to tvhow a
noticeable reduction in weight foot-
steps become lighter your work
seems easier and a lighter and more
buoyant feeling takes possession of
your whole being.
Kvery person who suiters from
superfluous fat should give this treat
ment a trial.
Never in Better Shape.

said Mr. Mcf'nney. "We were never

appeared stronger the day lie wai-

Ticks or a Bank Account Which?
Would you rather have ticks or a
bank account?
If you keep accounts charge licks
on the; loss side.
The cattle lick which carries sple-
netic fever is known to science) as
Margaropus annulatus. The cattle
fever tick however. Is a good enougli
name to use in its epitaph now being
written by the dipping vats.
All ticks do not transmit the para-
site which produces tick or splenet-
ic lever. Only one species carries
the disease but it is easier to kill
all blood suckers on cattle than to
pick out I he w orst kind. (Jive the
cattle the benefit of tho doubt.
Tick or splenetic fever Is caused
by microscopic parasites which get
Into tho animals' blood and attack or
break down the red blood corpuscles.
When a mother tick sucks blood from
an Infected animal she Ingests some
of these parasites and these get Into
the eggs and continue in the seed
lick which hatches out. The seed tick
passes the disease to the first suscep-
tible cow or steer from which Its gets
Its first meal of blood.
Cattle tickR are great survivors.
Many of them survive temperatures
as 0 degrees below freezing while
eggs if protected try grass or similar
material may survive zero weather.
Seed ticks can live In tho grass for
three or four months in warm weather
and for eight months if winters are
included without food. The longer
they starve however the hungrier
they are for rattle blood. Starving
ticks out is the slow way. Dipping
cattle in arsenical baths kills the
ticks tit once.

Submarine Believed to Have Met Ac-
cident Like German Naval Craft.
Washington. Oct. 20. Failure of the
merchant submarine firemen to arrive
In America which Teutonic diplomats
virtually conceded yesterday meant
that the vessel had been lost will not
cause abandonment of the project
to send merchant submarines regu-
larly from Germany to the Vnlted
Stales it was said. There appears to
be reason to expect that another sub-
marine freighter t Ither the Deutsch-
land or some other would reach an
American port within the next
month.
One official said it was considered
most likely that the frremen had nu t
Ibp fate of a number of naval sub-
marines w hirh sailed frni port nevi r
to be heard from again. These ves-
sels have disappeared completely and
none of the members of their crews
has been reported as being in deten-
tion camps of the entente allies. I
is presumed that they had some acci-
dent which caused them to sink.
An-uncr argument ndvunrcd in sup-
pert of the belief that the firemen
had inei ul'h an accident rather than
capture was that sh had aboard a
number of important documents for
the Cern.an embassy here which
probably wou'd have b'en made pub
lie bad they full n into the hand-
of the piitish.

THEATRICAL SEASON OPENS
AT PALACE THEATRE
lb-fore an audience that filled the
Palace theatre last night the theatri-
cal season of 191G-17 was opened. The
attraction was the Jean Tynes Jlmmie
Hodges .Musical Comedy company.
This aggregation of players Is a very
good one and the audience was an ap-
preciative one. Special mention should
be made of the most Important parts
of the show as tin y appeared to the
w riter.
The scenery Is very elalsirate and
would do credit to many larger shows
that are touring the country as mu-
sical comedy companies de luxe the
Proadway scents and tho bathing
beach were especially good.
In the company Jiminle Hodges un
doubtedly carried the audience away
by his work. His comedy Is clean
and irresltllily funny. Ho Is also a
good singer several of his renditions
(ailing for one or more encores.
Jean Tyn s the leading lady of the
company wore some very pretty
gowns and in her duet songs and
dinres with male members of the
cast appeared to very good advantage.
The chorus Is large and made up of
pret'y glrl-i who danced and sang in
a way tli.it feemed to please. This
company will be here the remainder
of the wii'r. with matinee and nigUt
