M. E. HARRIS HEAD OF CORNISH
ORPHANS' HOME HAS A PET
SCHEME THAT HE HOPES TO
SEE MATERIALIZE THIS YEAR.
M. B Harris superintendent of the
Cornish orphans' home was in the
city yesterday soliciting funds for
that institution. Mr. Harris reported
that he was meeting with good suc-
cess here in fact he says the peo-
ple of this city have always been ex-
tremely liberal with him and have
never failed to respond to his call
for help.
At the present time there are 22
Inmates of the home but Mr. Harris
snys this number will be consider-
ably increased with the advent of win-
ter. Ho has planned to buy a farm In
ndditlon to the present property and
convert It Into an up to date truck
and dairy fnrm something that will
be self-supporting. If he succeeds
the institution will have 300 acres
and will be a model farm for any
one's inspection. The purchase price
of this property will approximate
$6000 and of that amount he has
already secured nearly half. He has
the assurance of several local oil
operators that they will assist him In
this matter and he hopes to have
the work well begun another year.
Mr. Harris plans to have nothing hut
blooded cattle and hogs on the place
raise large flocks of chickens and
put their products on the tables of
this city every day. His plan is a
good one and if carried to a success
ful termination will bo a valuable as-
set to the state.
Mr. Harris is living at Chickasha
at present but spends most of his
tlmo on the road in the Interest of
the orphans' home. He has been at
work on his pet scheme for many
years and has tho satisfaction at pres
ent of knowing that it has been suc-
cessful. With the assistance of the
local oil men who are with him in
the Industrial farm movement it Is
practically assured that he will see
all his pans materialize before very
long.
The Germans say that the attempt
of the allies to cut off Turkey Is a
failure but we notice they are plan-
ning an aerial post rrom Berlin to
Constantinople.

CITY ELECTION PROMISES TO BE
TORRID AFFAIR WITH A HOST
OF CANDIDATES OUT FOR THE
MAYOR'S OFFICE.
he city political pot began boiling
yesterday morning and from now un-
til after tho city primary next spring
there Is going to be more or less polit-
ical talk Indulged in by those who
desire to remain on or to get on the
city payroll.
The absorbing race of course will
be for the office of mayor with that
of chlof of police as the second choice.
That thero will be a big bunch of can-
didates for both positions is an as-
sured fact and the race will bo a most
exciting one until arter the voters
have made their choice.
Kor Instance there Is Mr. Roberts
ex-mayor of this city. He is not let
ting any grass grow under his feet
and can be seen any day now In con-
fidential conversation with friends on
the street and Impressing the fart
upon their minds that he wants to se-
cure his old job buck again in order
to prove that It was all a mistake In
supplanting him In the first place.
Mr. Roberts has a r.irge circle of
friends who are encouraging hi in to
get in tho running and keep moving
until after the election assuring him
of their unqualified support.
The present Incumbent Mr. lusher
Is some campaigner nimself and It is
certain that he will hnvc his "lid" In
tho ring when the proper time comes.
Ho was appointed commissioner from
the third ward upon the resignation of
J. M. Hoiird and since the resignation
of Mayor Mullen was selected to fill
the unexpired term ns mayor. He
too has a following that hopes to
see him land the job and will work to
that end In the coming primary elec-
tion. Speaking of J. M. floard former
commissioner of finance who had a
little disagreement with the adminis-
tration and handed in his resignation
several months ago. At the time It
was avowed that he would get In the
race for mayor and take a fall out of
some of those with whom ho disagreed
while nerving the city. Since that
time tho determination has become
fixed with him and his friends and it
Is assured that he will be a candidate
for chief executive of the city when
the time arrives for the election.
There is another city official who
will be there or thereabouts when
the ballots are being cast and that is
I commissioner l.oikiou irom me iourui
ward. It lias been several years since
a mayor lias been selected from that
particular part of tho municipality
and some of Mr. London's admirers.
and ilit-y are numcious have taken
the hunch that he can bring home
tho bacon If ho asks the voters for
their suffrage at the primaries and it
Is practically certain that he will oak
them and thereby hanng It said once
moro that the old fourth where a
whole lot of the voting nnd more or
less of tho scrapping Is done in the
Interest of tho purly can have the
honor of furnishing the mayor once
more.
There are others who ore in the
hands of their friends and no doubt
could be Induced to run. Kor Instance
there Is John Carlock former city
engineer nnd a staunch democrat. It
has been whispered Jiat he would be
in the race. This he says will not
happen giving as his reason that lie
has to make a living for his family.
But then you never can tell what sac-
rifices some men can bo Induced to
make In the interest of party harmony.
Therefore if you see tils hat in the
ring do not be at all surprised.
Others may bob up serenely before
the day for casting tho votes arrives
but this is about the present line-up
so far as the mayor's race is con-
cerned. That the chief of police race will
bring out a large fleid is practically
a certainty. The present Incumbent
will not be a candidate for re-election
as be la going to make the race for
sheriff on the independent ticket
This of course prevents him from
entering the race for chief. Of the
present force however so far as Is
learned practically every one now
swinging the club will ask the dear
pee-pul for their suffrage on election
day. The above statement is hardly
fair however as there are few who
are not asking the people to make
them chief but here are a few of
;them who are: Will Frasher assistant
j chief; pan Blackburn and C. G.
Slmms patrolmen. These three are
I certain to make the race and there
may be others from tne department
jto get busy.
' On the outside there Is Dow Bra-
Iziel. who Is an avowed candidate and
In no past season have coats en-
joyed such favor as they will this
Fall. This is not only because
fashion has given them such a
prominent position in the matter
of style but because the styles
are so practical and smart.

D. E. Booker ex-clilef who will both
be In the running. It Is ensy to see
that there will be something doing in
this scramble and It's a hard guess to
pick tho winner at this early date.
Kor commissioners rrom the various
wards. It Is hard to predict who will
land the plums. It Is reported upon
pretty good authority that none of the
present board want tho job again hut
there will be material enough offered
for tho voters to mage a pretty good
selection nt the polls.
All other offices at tho rlty hall are
appointive and who fills them will
depend entirely upon trio whim of the
head of municipal affairs aided and
abetted by the Board of Commission
