I AM A KING.
1 am one of the most relentless
masters that Immunity has 1 speak
the words and my subjects obey.
While war is In inn made on King Al-
cohol. 1 have been allowed to work at
my usual trade practically undisturb-
ed. The law enters into the battle
against alcohol and is helping to slay
hini but those who profess to he my
enemies meet and pass resolutions and
walk out from the convention hall
and how In submission to my de-
mands. Alcohol reaches a few homes
while 1 reach practically all. out It
fades at my touch. The daughters of
the rich are ;t seaside and moun-
tain resorts lighting tuberculosis lie-
cause 1 have been made their com-
panion. While the children of the
wealthy are lighting decay away from
home the chlitir. n of the poor have
not been neglected and they are bat-
tling away against the same enemy
but more ;uietly around their own
firesides. 1 have buildcd many new
mounds above graves in I lie past year
and will build as many more in the
yi ar to come. 1 come in the name of
popularity and am made a welcome
visitor to every home. 1 tell iris at
lil'teen they must make me a com-
panion or ho ostracized from society
and they give me obeisance. As they
j: row older 1 tighten my clutches
about them until they either die or
become si) wretched from ill health
that l hey cannot assume their proper
place In the homes and become healthy
happy mothers. I fill my subjects
willi fear that they cannot be popu-
lar that they cannot be in tin: best
society unless I am made their con-
stant companion. It is woman's weak-
est point and she will joyously make
any sacrifice to do my bidding. I ex-
pose her body to the severest cold and
she will not resist; I torture her body
and she says the slocks erected for
her torture are not painful or un-
comfortable. I mesmerize mothers by
fear of social ostracism until they
will not raise the Iron hand against
me and I am monarch In every civil-
ized home. 1 am Fashion.

"Chamberlain's Cough Remedy has
been used in my household for the
past twenty years. I began giving it
to my children when they were small.
As a quick relief for croup whooping
cough and ordinary colds it has no
equal. llcing free from opium and
other harmful drugs I never felt

have recommended it to a large num-

01 ESCAPE
REV. T. A. LAMPTON IS OVER-
COME AND DID NOT RECOVER
FOR OVER TWELVE HOURS
WARNING TO OTHERS.
A plate gas burner as a heater
used in warming the bath room was
the cause of what was very nearly
a fatal accident the other (lay when
Itev. T. A. Lampion of the Fast Ard-
more Presbyterian church was over-
come and found twenty minutes later
in an unconscious condition by mem-
bers of his family.
The bath room is small and close
and the escaping gns from the burner
overcame ltev. Lampion before he
was aware. He did not fully recover
until twelve hours liter and even at
present is weak from his experience.
K. v. Lampion when interviewed sta-
led I but he hoped his experience
would u? a warning to all consumers
of gas' to he very careful to have
proper ventilation in all rooms where
ii is burned in the event that its es-
caping would have a chance of egress.
The gas company has warned peo-
ple repeat dly about the danger of
being careless with gas and to be
sure and know that they have the
i roiier euuipment to consume it. Anv
one in doubt rs to their equipment
can get all desired information h'.-
talling at the pas office. The mar
:ecmer.t will gladly send a man t )
make an Inspection of the eii'iipmerit
and make anv necessary recommer.d'A-
lions as to its change or oper.'.tlo'l.
The Iron Cress.
The Iroii Cross had for Knitf been
known as one of the most famous of
Kuicpean war decorations. The pro-
posal to bestow a reward of the kind
Kir distinguished service in the field
and since the foundation of the Ger-
man navy at sea originated with the
war of liberation in lMU. There were
again many distributions of the cross
during the "war of unity" against
France in It-70. With the shape of the
iron cross many pit lures have made
us lamilar. The material from which
It Is constructed is cast iron and it
has an edging of silver. The ISPi-lli
crosses have the initials F. W. (Fried-
rich Wilhelnn in the center; those of
1S70 W. (Wilhelm). The bestowal
of the decoration tarries with It a
small allowance lo the rank and file.
How Mr. Davis Got Rid of a Bad
Cough.
"Some time ago 1 had a very bad
cough" writes Lewis T. Havl.s P.lack-
water Del. "My brother McCabe Da-
vis gave me a small bottle of Cham-
berlain's Cough Itemed-. After tak-
ing this I bought half a dozen bottles
of it but only used one of them as the
cough left me and I have not been
troubled since. Obtainable every
where.
Not Right Kind of Notes.
When Mr. Xewwedde went home tho
other evening he guessed something
had occurred to displease the light of
his life. She looked gloomy. After
dinner it all came out.
"George" she said coldly "banks
are all frauds. Didn't yoj tell me that
they lent money on notes?"
"Yes dear." replied Tieorge repress-
ing a grin; "but"
"Well they don't" she went on con-
clusively. "1 took all those lovely let-
ters you wrote to me while we were
eugag"d down to the haul: and the
cashier read them. Then he laughed
and said they were very nice but ha
wouldn't lend me even a penny on
them!"
Do You Find Fault With Everybody?
An irritable fault-finding disposition
Is often due to a disordered stomach.
A man with good digestion is nearly
always good-natured. A great many-
have been permanently benefited by
Chamberlain's Tablets after years of
suffering. These tablets strengthen
tltu u?iin:ip)i ll nil enable it to Derform
its functions naturally. Obtainable ev
erywhere.
Exciting Moments.
"Vncle. have you had many exciting
adventures in your life?" "Oh yes
my boy. Several times I have been
caught in motor cars driven by fool
friends who wonted tn show me that
their cars could make sixty miles an
hour." Detroit Free Press.
