of a cise that will he threshed out
in tin" Mate supreme court Thursday

tax penalties belong to city or county.
The hearing is expected to deter-

to the city treasurer.
Since tini; all penalties and Inter-
est eolleeted upon delinquent taxes
have been retained by the counties
and carried to the sinking fund of
the county. Such sums aggregate
thousands of dollars In every county
and it now is contended by the cities
and other municipalities that these
penalties should lie apportioned
among the different municipalities ac-
cording to their pro rala share of
the gross tax.
The iase came up in the case of
the city of Clinton aaginsl the county

VALESKA SURATT
Star of "The Soul of Broadway" at the
Palace Theatre Thursday
Valeska Suratt the most discussed
woman of the stage or screen is as
is known to theatregoers the country
over the fashion plate of the dramatic
profession. Her gowns have made mil-
lions gasp by their beauty and daring
as well as by their dazzling lavlshness
of design. In making her screen de-

to dramas. .Miss Suratt has onlilone
all her previous efforts in gowns and
millinery fashioned by famous mo
distes.
In all she wears 150 gowns some
daringly and uniquely simple; others
that are calculated to make the femi-
nine portion of her spectators break
Into astonished exclamations when
they see them. II Is estimated
that In the course of ."The Soul of
Broadway" Miss Suratt changes her
garments with every forty feet of flim.
Many of them arc designed to match
the "sets" of "The Soul of Broadway"
which latter in themselves are quite
unlike anything yet seen in a motion
picture and were especially designed
for William Fox by a celebrated artist
of I lie ultra modern school.
"Luge" Seats will be reserved at the
"Palace" and all who are contemplat-
ing attending the show Thanksgiving
Pay will do well to reserve their
seats as early as possible as they are
going fast. Seats In all parts of the
house except the "loges" are not re-
served and will be 5 and 10 cents
every day.
