Detroit. March 9 Horace S. Bur-
roughs 2!) years old u son of the late
William S. lturroughs wealthy inven-
tor of an adding machine died late
today in a local hospital from a self-
inflicted wound. Ho was penniless
nnd in frail health friends snld. Sev-
eral years ngo according to former
associates he was worth more than
$Lr.oono.
Burroughs was found todHy in a
Michigan avenue rooming house. A
vein in his arm had been rut and he
was unconscious from loss of blood.
Burroughs regained consciousness at
the hospital long enough to make a
statement.

Humbarger Resigns as Secretary.
Oklahoma City March ft. A. D.
Humbarger financial secretary of the
state board of agriculture resigned
today.- He was appointed to this
position last fall when the resigna-
tion of the former secretary was ac-

state normal schools can not charge
a compulsory entrance fee of $2 to
cover library lyceuni and other in-
cidental expenses of students was

Guthrie Okla. March 9. The ex-
plosion of a gasoline lamp in the home
of Ceorge llass at Fillis started a tire
which destroyed his house and the

mother of Hass was so badly burned
that she died from her injuries and
he was very seriously burned.

OFFICER AT WISTER
IS SHOT FROM AMBUSH
Muskogee Okla. March 9 James
R. Logan United States deputy mar-
shal at Wister Okla. was shot down
and killed Tuesday on the main street
of that place. Noah Emory has been
arrested charged with the crime. Lo-
gan and Emory have been enemies
since Deputy Logan arrested Emory
four years ago. Logan received a
slight wound at that time.
The officer was shot from ambush
Tuesday. His slayer fired from inside
n livery barn. Two shots each of
which took effect were fired. Logan
fell at the first shot.
