Ardmore Sunday July 19 1914
A SUNDAY THOUGHT.
A thousand times modern unrest
repeats the ancient complaint: "This
Is an hard Baying; who can hear it?"
It is the revolt of Insurgent souls un-
willing to be held up to the high
fixed point of (;o(ls' righteousness.
But Jesus change no hard sayings.
The only way to obliterate these lofty
demand is to resolve God into a
aiorous concept of the human mind.
Then He may be made over every
morning to suit. That some people
are trying to do. Hut .the religion
of the Hible Is the religion of a God
fixed and final. Moreover it is the
religion of Cod's Incarnate rewlallo.n
of Himself in Jesus our Ixrd like-
vise fixed and final.
Jesus Christ is not merely an ec-
static dreamer stnndinn midway of
the rising centuries pointing the way
by which he trusted that humanity
would rise. Instead Jesus is the
Immortal torch-hearer standing
through all ages at the summit of the
road showing with eternal authority
the one way home to God. He him-
self Is Way Truth Life. In th:s
ho must be unalterably true or there
is no Christianity. Religion miglii
be left without tills but not Christian
Ity. One changeless reality back of
oil realIty-!od; one Infallible rev-
elation of that reality Jesus: these
are Ineradicable axioms of Christian
faith The Continent.

of Martin W. Litth ton of New York.
Twenty-five years ago Mr. Littlt-ton
was sniping on a Texas railroad he
was reared in th Ixne Star state
and caught the inspiration from the

led him upward to fame and power.
Beginning with little or no education

- In the current issue of the r"n1
Events the verwil editor Colonel
I'urcell voices a complaint that he
does not get a paper from the city
of Ardmore. The very admission
that a paper from Ardmore does not
grace his exchange table brands Col.
Pursell as the rankest kind of a fo.ir-
flusher. For many moons Pursell has
posed as a linguist and especially
a3 an expert 'n the Oklahoma langu-
age. It is time to uncover him and
expose him to ptd.lic gaze and con-
tempt bcause of the well established
fact that a man who does not know
the language of Ardmore cannot speak

LETTER TO WATSON.
Sidney Suggs Sect No Reason Why
He Should be Replaced by Another
Col. A. P. Watson
Corjioration Commissioner
Oklahoma City Oklahoma.
Dear Col. Watson: I was chagrined
to see j in the columns of The Ard-
moreite a letter from U. P. Howies of
Duront attacking you. It has never
bten the policy of The Ardmoreite to
accept matter of this kind. We have
never regarded It as legitimate adver-
tising and this letter was placed
In the paper without my knowledge
and without the knowledge of the e d-
itor. I owei it to you to state that I
believe you have been true to 'he
trust accepted from the people at the
ballot box. I believe you have used
jour entire energies and your broad
experience in giving the people a fair
administration in your department of
state. I believe the state corporation
commission has bee n a true friend to
the people In every emergency and I
believe you have been a most useful
man on the commission. I will state
further that I do not se nny reason
why you should not ho re-elected. I
do not see wherein the state could
strengthen its forces "against corpor-
ate greed by replacing you with an
untried commissioner.
You have always had many warm
friends in this section of Oklahoma
and they are still with you to a man.
I hope to see you round out your
usual majority here.
Yours most respectfully
SIDNEY Sl'GCS.

L. M. THURSTON
County Superintendent of Public Instruction.
Hv his efforts al
school district
tiling that teachers appreciate and School Hoard members are proud of.
There are more eighth grade graduates than ever before. The scholastic
enumeration has increased more than twelve hundred. All the educational
forces of the county are united more completely than ever before. Trained
Carter County teachers have been recommended for our schools. Less help
lias been required In the office than ever before. He has been on duty either
visiting in the schools or doing the work of the office every day since he
took the oath of office. Out of ninety-one consolidated schools In the
state forty have received state aid two from Carter County.
In his platform he says: "I challenge anyone to show in print or from
the platform giving me a chance to answer where any discrimination
partiality or favoritism has been shown during my administration.'
Know the facts before you cast your vote against a man who has been
tried and indorsed by every school man in the county. All school men
agree that he has made good. He lias done his best This means an in-
dorsement of his past efforts. Carter County has never elected a county
superintendent with qualifications less than a state certificate. You will
do that very tiling if you do not elect Thurston. He challenges anyone
to show where he has failed to get everything possible for the schools of
this county financially professionally or otherwise during the last IS
months.
HE HAS A LIFE STATE CERTIFICATE.
