Miss llarnard was In an indi.j
nant frame of mind when she en
terod Muskogee yesterday. Soma
one had just told her that the last
legislature had passed a law disbar
ring all women from holding office
in Oklahoma. "If this be true
exclaimed Miss Barnard angrily "it
will work untold hardships on thou
sands of women breadwinners and
leave many of. them who are widows
with little children without a home
And I know of many brilliant able
and consecrated women who intend
ed running for office of county su
perintendent and county clerk and
others who under the recent law-
will be barred."
Miss Barnard cited the opportun
lty of bread winning as one of the
reasons why the women In Oklahoma
should be granted the right of suf
frage. "Women should have the
right" she declared "to protect
themselves against unjust legsla
tion."
Miss Barnard has just returned
from McAlester where she inspected
the state penitentiary. She is here
to investigate the city and county

Send Out an Appeal For the Poor
Aged Hebrews.
New York. Did it ever occur to
you that there are hundreds of poor
and homeluss agt d of our faith
dragging out their unfortunate ex-
istence in some deserted nook de-
spondent and forsaken.
That such is the case Is evidenced
by the hundreds of applications from
prospective inmates now on file in
our office unattended because cf
lack of space in our present horn.:
which shelters lSii inmates in a
beautiful six-story three-lots corner
building.
To meet the urgent demand of
thtse homeless aged the officers
ani directors of the Heme of tin:
Daughters of Jacob have purchased
36 lots in one of the choicest spots
of New York City to build on it a
home for six hundred inmates.
This plan will require one-quarter
million dollars for its success-
ful consummation. To raise this
sum quickly and easily by a popu-
lar subscription of $1.00 each was
the idea of our very efficient super-
intendent (Mr. Albert Kruger. For
this purpose he has designed a
wonderful book THE ALBUM.'
This Album which weighs 135
pounds contains space enough for
300000 signatures and 5000 photo-
graphs. It Is safeguarded against
fire in a specially constructed iron
vault where it is constantly kept
"as a perpetual record."
The name of the donor of $1.00
to the Building fund is inscribed in
this Album. Five dollars purchasa
five lines and one hundred dollars
a whole page of 100 lines.
As it is our intention to contin le
in the new home our present policy
of admitting also non-resdents cfj
New York as inmates of our home j
we appeal to all our charitable
friends regardless of the place of '
their residence to aid us in our.
effort to build this nt-v home. As !
the need of those waiting for its
completion is urgent the immediate
raisins of funds is imperative. :
