As a result of I'.v: H:tomobi9e acci-
dent on the Il'irdville road about four
miles east of Fort Wmih early Friday
morning resuHing in the Instant kill-
ing of Jo0 EdwarJ. a bartber; R. 1.
Reeder another of Jiarty is at
Johnson's sunilarium barely alive and
Dr. Johnson said Friday nisht 1'')
did not think Reoder would live un
til Saturday niornitia. None of th.'
other lour memb'TS )! the joy riding
party L. Y. Calkin". Mrs. Dot Jack
son Mrs. Altha E'y and Miss Ida
Lee. the latter of Ardmore OkUi..
were seriously hurt. ReedT's In-
juries are Internal and it is believed
lie has a fractured skull.
The coroner' inquest returned by
Judge Robert F. l'eden Friday was
that Edwards came to bis death from
tho overturning of an automobile
driven at u reckless speed by I.. F.
Calkins.
Later the verdict together with all
testimony and other information bear
ing on the accident was turned over
by Judge Peden to the grand Jury
for its consideration. It is likely
that all the participants in the fatal
joy ride as soon as their Injuries
permit will he summoned for exam
Inatton by the probers.
The auto belonged to Mr. Calkin3
and Is practically a total wreck.
Of the injured Mr. Keeder was
rc moved to Johnson's sanitarium Mr.
Calkins to iSt . Joseph's infirmary and
the women to their homes.
-Mrs. Altha Hy ;:09 West First
street one of the party was granted
a divorce just a week before the ac-
cident happened.
When the accident occurred the
party was returning from an evening
spent at the "Dutchman's" a resort
run hy Herman Koeder. According
to the women occupants the car was
going at an excessive rate of speed
on the return trip nnd several times
they asked Mr. Calkins who was
driving the car to go slower. Drs.
A. L. and A. P. McEIroy of River-
side the first 'physicians at the scene
who brought one of the woven to her
home said they noticed several brok-
en beer bottles at the scene of the
accident.
It was said before the party left
Fort Worth a stop was made to get
two dozen bottles of beer. Later
Mri. Ely ihecame alarmed at tho
speed with wheh the car was going.
She sa'd it almost turned over near
the Texas and Pacific station.
(When the accident occurred it is
said the car jumping from a br'dge
first struck the ground on the radiu.r
then turned turtle p'nning the occu-
pants beneath. Mrs. Ely was the
first to crawl out while the others
cou'd not ecape until the car had
been turned over. Edward's nick
was broken.
Constable W. M. Eagle and J. W.
George who live but a short distance
from the scene of the acc'tlent were
the first to render aid. The former
kept watch over the car the remain-
der of the night.
Edwards was employed at the bar-
Iier shop in Western National baim
building 912 Houston St. He was
married but had no children. Fun-
eral services will be held from Rob-
