Wednesday of this week the citizens
of Oklahoma City were startled by
the finding of an infant child near the
city
It was suposedly the victim of il-
legitimate parents, born prematurely,
and thrown away, so to speak.
The lifeless body was tucked into a
pasteboard box and left on the Rock
Island track, to be a prey of vultures
or whatsoever happened along.
A crime had been committed. One
of the most vicious crimes known to
man. Yet what did the officials do
toward locating the guilty parties?
Nothing! Absolutely Nothing! There
was not even an inquest. Neither
was the case investigated.
This brazen offense is tacked on
the almanac of unsolved mysteries, to
blow over like the Gunreth ear-snip-
ping murder, while said paid officials
spend their valuable time chasing
crap-shooters or lounging about in
easy chairs.
Unless the officials do something to
stay this wave of crime, Oklahoma
City will gain the reputation of be-
ing a place where cut-throats and vil-
lians can practice their evil-doings
with absolute protection of the law.
Sheriff G. W. Garrison arrived in
Oklahoma City last night from Deni-
son, Tex., with Frank McCuen and
Fannie Ritchey, the couple recently
charged with murder ef the four in-
mates of the Big Ann resort at >512
East Grand avenue, last July.
The woman was locked up in a cell
in the basement of the jail, by her-
self. McCuen is held in the men's de-
partment of the building. No persons
are allowed to talk with either except
the county attorney, members of the
sheriff's force and W. R. Taylor, at-
torney for the Ritchey woman.
According to the statement of Mr.
Garrison this morning, he thinks he
has enough information to convict Big
Ann, Peters and McCuen of the al-
leged crimes.
"We have a hotel clerk and a good
woman at Denison whom the accused
told the whole plot of the murder,"
said the sheriff. "How it all came
out, McCuen quit the Ritchie woman
at Muskogee and went to Denison.
They have been lovers for years. Mc-
Cuen changed his name to W. H.
Ewing and the woman could not find
him. She stayed there at a hotel for
several days. She found a constable
there and got him to help find the
man, stating that he was wanted in
Oklahoma City. This constable Is an
old friend of mine and phoned me im-
mediately."
The sheriff refused to give out any
more information, but expressed en-
tire confidence as to the evidence
against the accused.
When asked if either the Ritchie
woman or McCuen had confessed to
him, the sheriff stated they have not,
but that the woman told him they
were down at Big Ann's resort that
night and got drunk.- McCuen took
the woman home and put her to bed,
after which McCuen returned to the
Big Ann resort and helped carry out
the plot, according to the sheriff's
theory.
