Oklahoma’s bootleg business is conservatively estimated at SVi.Ooo.OOO.OO
a year. Actually, it's probably closer to Si>5.tMKi,(HXUX).
For proof—Dean M or ley, revenue commissioner of "wet" Arkansas, reported
that 700,<KM) cases of liquor are shipped into "dry" Oklahoma every year. And it’s
no secret that illegal liquor flows into our state from Louisiana, Illinois, Missouri,
Texas, Colorado, and now Kansas.
Now take another conservative figure of $70.00 as Oklahoma’s bootleg price
per case of liquor and multiply it just by Commissioner Morlcy's reported ’OO 000
cases annually—that’s $49,000,000.00 without going further.
And more proof—1,312 known Oklahoma bootleggers last year held Federal
wholesale and retail liquor sumps. As an Oklahoma editor said: "What do you
think they’re selling-soda pop?”
It's os simple os:
bolish
Yes, bootlegging in Oklahoma is big business, but it's a busi-
ness that pay* no taxes to help support our state and its in-
stitutions, build our schools and roads, poy our teachers and
assist our oged and needy. r
