Yesterday afternoon Justice Zwlck
arraigned the following named persons:
CHARGED WITH MURDER.
Archie and Ivan Hawkins and John
I1 ried, charged jointly with the murder
of 8am ConrJors Sunday morning, Sep-
tember 8, about 2 o'clock, at the resi-
dence of Richard Ilalzer, northeast of
the ofcty, while a country dance was in
progress, each pleaded not guilty. All
were refused bond and remanded to the
county jail to await preliminary hear-
ing, September 26.
Connors was stabbed below the heart
while the Hawkins boys and Fried were
all engaged in a scuffle in the back
yard. The Hawkins boys claim Fried
did the killing and Fried claims one
of the Hawkins boys committed the
deed.
MERRIFIELD MURDER.
Mrs. Mary A. Carpenter, charged with
the murder of Thomas W. Merrifield
at the old ice plant of the Anheuser
Busch brewery, August 28, pleaded not
guilty and the date of her preliminary
hearing was set for September 28.
NEGRO KILLING.
James Schooley the negro who is al-
leged to have killed Joseph Campbell
another negro, rear of Charlie's pool
hall on First street, August 10, pleaded
not guilty. He waived hearing and was
bound over to the grand jury.
GUILTY OF LARCENY.
Dan Gower, charged with petit lar-
ceny, pleaded guilty and was sentenced
to thirty days in jail. He is the negro
who was with Merrifield at the old ice
plant when Mrs. Carpenter killed Mer-
rifield for stealing junk.
Jasper Hawkins, charged with as-
sault with intent to kill, pleaded not
guilty and his preliminary hearing was
set for Thursday, October 4. uawkins
is the man who stabbed L. G. Russell
several times in the back and below the
heart, the affray taking place at Rice's
barn on Main street. This Hawkins
is a brother of the Hawkins boys now
held in jail for the fatal stabbing of
Sam Connors.
A. Thomas enterel a plea of not guil-
ty to the charge of assault to kill and
his case was set for October 1.
N. Swaydan and Albert Swaydan en-
tered pleas of not guilty to the charge
of assault and battery on Oscor Mas-
sed and S. Massed. They were released
under $250 bond.
Alvin Coslett and Richard Nation,
charged with grand larceny for the al-
leged theft of 25 brass valves of the
value of $84.50, pleaded not guilty and
their cases were set for Saturday.

filed their report with the referee yes-
terday and the order of sale was made.
According to the appraisers the plant
by invoice is worth $29,000, though the
true value was estimated to be $14,-

The creditors will hold a meeting
October 4. and elect a truste, who will
conduct the sale of the property.
