th<* whipping was done Sunday or
Monday. A part of the boy's back and
hips were almost completely covered
with welts si. thick that they all run
together. "The little fellow seemed
to be rather stiff about his limbs and
did not display much evidence of ac-
tivity, though I could not swear as to
whether or not It might be caused from
some other course. Mr. Strubble, the
humane officer, and myself visited the
home of Mrs. Wright last night and

All of the rest of the children kept
there seemed to be well cared for. When
I questioned Mrs. Wright about th>
child, she admitted whipping it with
u switch, but stated that she did not
think she had whipped It so badly,
her main reason she said that the child
was a very stubborn lad and caused
her much trouble by not keeping him-
self cleanly In his habits Besides this,
she also stated that the mother had
caused her trouble in neglecting to pay
the board bill for her child."'said Pres-

Mrs. Wright was arrested last night
upon a cruelty charge and her case will
be tried before Police Judge Hlghley
