WESTERN OIL DERRICK, SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 1920.
$500,000 GIVEN
FOR OIL LEASE
OF FIVE ACRES
BlTRKBURNETT. Texas. Nov. 6.
One hundred thousand dollars an acre!
That is the figure on which an acreage
de4 in Waggoner district of th<-
Burkburnett field was made. Five
acres in block 88, holdings of the Gray
Gander Oil company, were sold to
R. R. Langley of Kansas City, by .1
H. Darby, F. L. McCoy and R. T
Harris, the latter two of Wichita Falls,
for $500,000 One of the first pro
ducera In the Waggoner extension wa

OIL INCOME LARGE
FOR OSAGE INDIANS
WASHINGTON, Nov. In the
northwest corner of Oklahoma Is the
Osage Indian reservation, belonging;
to about 2,100 Indians who have been
called the richest people, per capita.
In the world. This «ectlon of the Brent
state of Oklahoma Is one of the won
derful oil-producing fields of th.
country, and Its wells dally pour grei.i
wealth upon these Indians. From their
oil and gas royalties each Osage wa^
piiM during the past year more than i
17,000.
Oil Wealth Gain*.
The prodigious Increase In this'
source of wealth has been developed
during the last three or four years.
Under the original lease on the OBage
reservation the royalty was one-tenth
of the oil and |5o per annum for each
gas well. The present royalty paid by
operators Is one sixth of the value of
ihe oil and gas produced.
Theae two are now leased separately
the gas leases being In large tracts
and covering practically all 0f the
reservation.
The leasing of large tracts under
gas leases permits the lessee to do-
velop the gas deposits systematically
as they are needed to supply the con
Burner.
Formerly, when the oil and gas de
posits were covered In the sami
lease, large quantities of gas were
wasted becauae the operators, as a
rule, desired oil and permitted the
gas to escape s„ that drilling for oil
could be continued. Recently, the
wnate of ga-i has been practically
eliminated on the Osage reservation,
to the great advantage of the Indians,
the gas lessees, and the public.
Leases Sold at Auction,
Oil leases are made In ISO-acre
tracts, which are sold at public aur
Hon. bidding on the bonus above th"
royalty, about 200 quarter sections
being advertise,I for oil leases every
three or four months.
Since the adoption of the regula

The twenty-five year period during
which the mineral rights are reserve.!

Osage Indiana maintains that the
minerals belong t0 all the member,
of the tribe, fchare and share alike
and have repeatedly and justly re
quested that action be taken to ex
tend the trust period for a term sufri
clently long to remove the mineral
A bill, which I believe Is fair to all
concerned. Is now pending before con

legislation be enacted, that Osage
ounty would receive several hundred
thousand dollars and the state ap-
proximately 11.000.000 annually not
now collectable, and the lessees
would have their lenses extended ar
