Another move in Attorney Gener-
al West's fight on the Standard Oil
was initiated yesterday when a suit
was filed in the Logan county dis-
trict court asking an order of court
compelling the Prairie Oil and Has
company to relinquish its entire
holdidgs of oil lands, leases and
wells in the eastern counties tra
versed by the company's pip? line
I'hecontention of the state is the
company holds lands in the state in
vio.ation to laws as being a com-
mon carrier and therefore a public
service corporation and only per-
mitted to own such lands as are
necessary in the operation of its
public service.
The Prairie company is charged
with discriminatory rates on the
transportation of oil, which have
resulte 1 in the radical monopoliza-
tion of the industry in the oif pro-
ducing counties of Washington. No-
wata, Tulsa, Osage and Rogers, and !
the state further prays if the re-j
str«int of the company from further
producing oil from its holdings does i
not relieve the independent produc- j
ers, that receivers be appointed for
the company in the state.
The suit is filed by West contrary
to the telegraphic order wired b\
Government Haskell instructing he
attorney general to bring 110 suits
without first receiving insturctions
from him.
The effect of the suit is tg force
the Prairie to abandon! all its busi-
ness except transportation and the
refining of crude petroleum. 1 he
litigation is based op the alleged
violation of the constitution for-
bidding corporations to conduct
any business in competition with ist
patrons. Another constitutional
provision cited is that forbirinig
corporations to hold land except
that necessary to conducting its
business. This suit is of far more
importance than anv previously at-
tempted as bearing directly on the
Prairie.

The recent school law, an extract
of which appears elsewliere in to-
day's Light, will prove a stunner as
j well as an eye opener to many j
' school boards. By its provisions it j
is a misdemeanor for any school!
S board to employ a teacher who is I
J related by blood or marriage to any j
j member ot the board and is pun-1
________ ' ished by a fine of not less than $100 i
nor more than $1000 and by re-
hhmbk moval from office. This will cause i
a double schutfle in many districts
for it has been the custom tor school
boards to naturally favor their kin-
folks by giving them a job as
teacher.
A member of the Sapulpa school
board staled yesterday evening that
the board anticipated this law and
so far as known had elected no tea- j
ehers who were related to any mem-
ber of the board. In that case Sa-
pulpa schools will not be em harassed J
any on account of the new law.
