Whit GaAST suys he can furnish
pointers to anyone who has an ambi-
tion to back u newspaper.
A compact front presented by the
Republicans, with good men as can-
didates means sococm: division will
defeat all.
Trade is picking up rapidly in
this citv. The farmers are market-
ing large quantities of wheat, and
the Kickapoo money is finding its
way here throngh various channels.
It saved time, besides that It,
saved the county soni • expense, us it
did not take up s i much space to pub-
lish the statement to put it "sundry
bills *10,137." It was a paltry sum
anyway, and In these hard times
economy is the watch word.
Tub republicans of this county
have an opportunity of electing the
whole ticket if men are nominated at
the convention who haven't a shady
record to explain away; meu who aw
eminently qualified for the places
they seek; meu wlioai no republican
need be ashamed to support. A unit-
ed effort means succcss with such
inen.
What aaddtr sight could there
possibly be than that of a strong able
bodied m m seeking work in vain
while his family is suffering for food.
There will be many such when the
present struggle is over unless a
compromise can be affected. l ights
to the bitter end means want and
penury for somo one. Under such
conditions auarchists are born.
If Mcsta.no holds out faithful to
the Bacon idea of running county
affairs, what a power that township
can be. After Ilacon gets Maxey
elected he can switch Mustang back
into Tompkins' district and elect a
democrat to succeed him- It is one
of the smoothest schemes ever un-
loaded into this county, and if Mus-
tang holds out the ring can safely
count upon a long lease of life.
THE FINANCIAL EXH.BIT8.
Democratic financial statements
are generally constructed documents
They are so generously gotton up
that they show just what the ring
wants the public to know, and keep
from public view all that is not best
to submit to public inspection.
Examine the statement of counts
finances which is signed by the
couuty clerk and Chairman Bacon of
the county hoard. You will not find
any item of expenditure for print-
ing. That will seem slraDge at
first, but when vou recall how much
trouble the Times-Journal drew
down upon 'tself for daring to in-
quire into that item of expenditure a
few months ago, your wandering will
cease, and you will probably etc
clearly how the business is worked.
You will notice that amounts as
small as *110 are itemized in that re-
port, and then you will liud upon
further examination that the sundries
reached the very extraordinary sum
of *10,137. Tucked snugly away
in sundries is that printing bill
Inquiry will elicit the information
that the way is usually blocked when
anybody tries to make public that
portion ot county financial history.
The debt it will be seen, is *11.">,-
000. The Tim88-Journal has been
giving the amount ot debt as *107,-
OO0. ^ It was a roiigh estimate, pur-
posely conservatory estimated.
l'lease examine the court costs.
In order to lessen the shock, doubt-
less, the court expenses have been
separated into three items. The
total court expenses including board
of prisoners and sheriff s fees, are
♦21,179. There may be some of
the court expenses in that sundry
item, but after taking the printing
bill out of it the amount left for
sundries will not amount to much
anyway.
There is much in the document
but it requires a great deal of study
to ascertain its full import.

They are weighty reasous urged
by the Oklahoman to justify the
disfranchisement of two townships
ia the vote for eommisioner and the
formation ol two districts about as
irregular in shape aa it would be pos-
sib'e to make thein, and have theui
composed of townships touching; each
ether? Tho only reason thus far
urged is diat the Times-Jocrnai
should be kept out of the county
printing. County printing has a
deal of meaning to Bacon and his
friend, onr neighor, and it is impos-
sible for them to see the r'ghts of
the people of Lincoln and Deep Fork
townships over that mighty obstruc-
tion.
This is 110 experiment. Thousands are in use. Samples can be seen
in operation at the olfioe of the Oklahoma Gas Company.

Tub lawyers of the senate are con
sldcrlng a bill for the purpose of set
tling labor disputes by arbitration.
They are inquiring Into the extent of
the authority of the United States to
regulate such disputes. Ohio al-
ready has a board that can act if the
parties In the dispute choose to call
upon them. 11 Is useless as they have
no authority to carry their findings
into execution. The present strike
will bring the need of some such leg-
islation more prominently before the
leghlatures of the different states
than ever before.

lies of the live tribes get together
and resolve that the Indian is not
ready to cope with his white neigh-
bor, hut such resolutions has not
stayt d the statehood sentiment, nor
tho growing desire to have the land
allotted. It is a time that the full
bloods can not cope with his white
brother, as ia eviderced by the ad-
vantage tho v hite Indians have in
the tribal inheritance of land, and
what is needed is such laws as w ill
protect the weak members of the
tribe. Tho best protection would
be allotment, for then the grasping
white Indian cannot secure control
of the more sluggish red Indian s
Und. He must be dealt with indi-
vidually, sud the spirit of competition
to secure tho use of land will always
insure him a good living. \\ ith
present conditions he does not have
possession of his share, gets no
