The reports of discoveries of pro-
posed raids by the Dalton gang should
not be made without reliable founda-
tion, as it is detrimental to this ter-
ritory and will keep many people out
of this country that would come here
were it not for being led to believe
that bands of outlaws were roaming
our prairies and ready at any time to
swoop down on some of our towns and
rob the banks.
Waterworks may be an expensive
investment at this time, but
might prove to be the means of
saving the business portion of our
town one of these days, which would
pay for them twice over and then have
some left from each man.
Last Saturday evening the formal
proceedings of introducing into office
Chief Justice Frank Dale and asso-
ciate justice Henry W. Scott took place.
Chief Justice Green swore the two
judges in and then steped out from
the bench and in a graceful manner pre-
sented his seat to his successor. Upon
taking his seat the new chief justice,
upon motion of Judge Harper S. Cun-
ningham, admitted Judge Green to
practice before the supreme court and
placed his name at the head of the list
of attorneys admitted to practice. The
proceedings were highly impressive and
dignified.—State Capital.
!>elegate Flynn in his resolution
offered before congress charging fraud
in the local land office at this place
made a grave mistake and did great
injustice to Messrs. Malone and King.
The facts are that the system inaugu-
rated for the lining up of applicants
to enter lands absolutely preclude
fraud in every shape, and if any man
in line losses his place through his
own carelessness and not through
fraud, it is his own fault.—Perry

Major Neal received his instructions
yesterday relative to his work with
the Kickapoos, and will proceed to
the reservation tomorrow. His in-
structions are to make a complete roll
of the members of the tribe, and in
order to facilitate his work he will
employ an interprter. There will be
no difficulty to enroll them, as the en-
rollment is for the purpose of paying
them about $200 each. Major Neal
thinks he will have no dificulty in get-

The Edmond Democrat and Edmond
Sun have consolidated. It is a good
move. Two papers of the same polit
ical faith is one too many for a small
town like Edmond.—Chandler Dem.-
Warrior. _______
Aalbama was visited by one of the
most destructive storms known to have
occurred for over twenty years, Mon-
day last. Mobile was damaged to the
extent of over $ 1,000,000, and several
people lost their lives.
Rattle Snake Jack formerly of Te-
cumseh, died of a snake bite at Chi-
cago, the other day. Jack gathered
up a box of snakes' here about a year
ago and took them to Chicago to ex-
hibit during tha fair. — Tecumseh
Herald.
If Senator Stewart had made that
speech against Cleveland last fall the
democrats might have carried Ver-
mont, on the idea that the American
people like fair play and detest brutal-
ity and ignorance when brought to
bear against a public man.—Globe-
Democrat.
If legislation against silver has
caused it to fall so low in price. Then
it is reasonable to suppose that it will
take legislation in its favor to cause it
to go up in price. But then it has gone
up in price from GO to 74 cents per
ounce since this congress convened.
Will the wise theorists please guess
•fain. _____
The silver question Is getting the
Republican party mixed up in rather a
funny shape. The Globe-Democrat de-
fends President Cleveland against
Senator Stewart's abuse and abuses
Senator Cameron the stalwart Repub-
lican senator from Pensylvania, be-
cause he favors the free coinage of
silver.
On September 1st, the President ap-
pointed Henry W. Scott who has been
the represenative of the Associated of-
fices at Oklahoma City, O. T., Asso-
ciate justice of the Supreme Court of
Oklahoma ex-offlcio judge of the third
judicial district. Judge Scott is prob-
ably the youngest judge ever appointed
by a president being but twenty seven
years of age. He has had a remark-
able career for a man so young. He
is the auther of Scott's Probate I>aw
and Practice," " Distinguished Amer-
ican Lawyer," and other works. He
is an untiring worker and student, and
has a good judicial mind. Upon his
appoitment, the bar of Oklahoma City
held a meeting at which a number of
fiattcring speeches were made and res-
olutions adopted congratulating the
appointed and unanimously requesting
his confirmation by the Senate.
The sheriff of Logan county is not
expected to look after so small
a thing as a shell game, and only ig-
norant fools will bite at such games.
They are a class of people that never
read a newspaper in which so much
warning is given regarding these fakes
and consequently they work for suck-
ers. We don't feel one bit. sorry for
the poor cusses that loose their money
in this way, and only say, good enough
for them if they dont keep posted and
heed the fvery-day warning. The
sheriff can't be all over the county at
one time, and we will give you a pointer
that he will put a quietus on all such
games in force where he chances to be.
—Mulhall Chief.
The Mulhall Chief sees fit to com-
ment on our criticisms of the Logan
county sheriff in the following manner.
We will not waste words on the mat-
ter but allow our readers to <lraw their
own conclusion. We only say the
sheriff was at Orlando and saw these
games run and was asked to stop it
but refused to heed the request.
The following letter was sent to
Hon. Dennis Flynn by the citizens of
Perry last Friday,which explains itself.
To the Hon. Dennis Flynn,Wash-
ington, D. C.
Dear Sir: We the undersigned
committee appointed by a mass meet-
ing of the citizens of Perry, were di-
rected to call your attention to the fact
Oklahoma law requires residence of
six months as a qualification of electors,
and [that under that law only those
comiug upon the Cherokee outlet from
Oklahoma proper could participate in
the coming municipal election, and to
request you to secure the passage of a
joint resolution of congress suspending
the application of that provision. We
enclose a copy of the governor's proc-
lamation and a copy of the resolution
under which appointed.
It has been published by several
papers of the territory that the Dalton
gang had been seen at different times.
Such reports in our estimation have
no foundation at all. If the Dalton
gang is seen as reported, why do not
the officers of the sections where they
are reported seen, make some kind of
an attempt to capture them? There is
reward enough offered for their capture
to make any of them (did they believe
these reports) go after them with a
posse sufficient to Capture them, if
there were any foundation in these
sensational rumors. We believe that
the officers of Oklahoma are as brave a
set of men as they have any where,
and were the Dalton gang so near we
feel safe in saying they would at once
give immediate and active pursuit.
In accordance with an order from
Govornor Renfrow, Sheriff Scrngg ont
Saturday made a raid on all gambling
establishments and closed them up. In
a very short time after the order was
known wheels of fortune, faro layouts
and chuk-luck tables were piled up in
inocuous deusuetude on the outside of
the principal resorts. The immediate
call for such an order from the chief
executive was that complaint was made
to him of numerous robberies and
homicides that had taken place in and
around the gambling places and he
put a stop to it. The Buckhorn and
Blue Bell, two of the most prominent
of these places looked like deserted
tabernacles soon after the clearing out
of the gambling devices. The trains of
Saturday and Sunday took out a large
number of expert card sharks.—Perry

Admission of the Territory
Washington, D. C., Sept., 30.—It is
highly probable that the committee on
territories will report a bill for the ad-
mission of Utah to statehood within a
few days. Mr.Joseph a member of that
committee, said such a bill would be
reported, and added that before the
close of the present session bills for the
admission of Arizona, New Mexico
and Oklahoma would be reported fav-
orably from the committe. He also ex-
pressed great confidence that all four
bills would became laws.
