Paul Blanchard and Larry Crabtree have en-
tered the sc hool board race for Fletcher s position.
Ml three candidates will have the opportunity
to present their platforms at 7 p.m. Thursday at a
lornm sponsored by the Mounds PTA. The lorum
will be held in Caudle Auditorium and is open to
the public.
Lach candidate was asked the same questions
and given an opportunity lo make comments. The
following storv is based on those interviews and
continents:
Douglas Heteher
Incumbent Douglas Fletcher has served on the
Mounds school board lor more than nine years.
ITeteher said it he is re-elected, this would he Ins
last term to serve.
Fletcher said he is seeking re-election because
he wants to continue Ins role in helping provide a
good education for all the children in the district
He said he strongly believes one ol the pre req-
uisites lor serving on the school l-oard is to have a
child m the school system lie has had two ehtl
dren in Mounds schools during his years on the
school board
ITeteher sees the role ol a school hoard mem
her as that of setting policy and making sure the
administration follows policy.
“We've got a good school system now.
Fletcher said. "We've seen steady growth over
the last few years It that continues, we will have
to make decisions on additional classrooms, pos-
sibly for the next bond issue."
Fletcher would like to see the standardized test
scores continue to increase and the hiring ot a
middle sehixil principal it the budget allows.
As a school hoard member. Fletcher wants
feedback from the public anil said he can be
reached by phone at home or at hoard meetings.
Fletcher is a certified public accountant and
believes he brings a unique view to the board as
far as sehixil finances and budgeting.
He said he believes a board member should
