"Keep the hoys on the farm." is the
cry from public speakers, magazine
writers and welfare workers all over
the com try. "We must stop this
wholesale exodus to the crowded cit-
ies''—etc.. hut in most cases these
well-meaning people overlook one of
the fundamental cruses <>f this drift i
to the cities. Farm boys would s:ay
on the farm if there was not some-
thing radically wrong, and if you in-
vestigate the case of the young man |
who leaves ' father and mother to ]
live in -the great crowded city, you |

Very often it is the drudgery which
he was furced to endure because of j
antiquated methods in the farm build-
ings, and very frequently it is the

in farm life has been neglected, too
often it has been merely a shack or
shelter with little convenience and
comfort. If more farm homes wore
built on a modern basis there would
be little need for propaganda, articles
and speeches to exhort the hoy to
