Comic Cancels Contract
NEW YORK (UPI)—Produc-
ers for the Ed Sullivan show,
shocked at what they called
comedian Jackie Mason’s “Ob-
scene gestures" during Sunday
nights show, tore up the com-

The “obscene gestures’ con-
tisted of Mason “thumbing his
nose at Sullivan, the audience
and the orchestra. . .and mak-
ing a gesture with a finger,’
according to Bemie Ilson, pub-
lic relations representative for
Sullivan Productions.
Producer Bob Precht said the
contract also was being can
celled because of Masons al-
leged “offensive conduct, insub-
ordination, and gross deviation
from material agreed upon in
the telecast .” The contract had
called for six sppearances on
the television variety show, of
which Sunday night's was the< show.

Mason's reaction was a mix-

ger, and he said he would sue
