have at last got into the game of plugging for a peace settle-.%
ment calculated to settle something. There is widespread %
satisfaction in the cablegram sent to President Wilson b;. %
President Wheeler of the Chamber of Commerce of the Lni' s
ed States, assuring him that American bu-ine record.- ii-'-!f %
unqualifiedly in favor of such an international association as ,
you have been advocating." «
President Wheeler very properly reminds the president j,
and the world in general of the decisive vote taken on thi
subject by his organization in Demecber, 1915.
A formal questionaire was submitted to all the chamber-
of comnier e in the country, repn-si riting ail business and pro-
fessional interests and including in their membership hundred-
of thousands of business and professional men. Of the local
chamber- and boards registering their opinion, 753 voted for
an international court with authority to decide international
disputes, to only 21 against it. There was a vote of 550 to
157 in favor of using economic force to back the dc-isions oi
such a tribunal. There was a vote of 4 52 to 249 in favor of
compelling acquisesctnce by the uie of military force—the
policy urged by Mr. Taft's nli-.n. The local chambers vot"'i

McADOO IN THE MOVIES
City Vulcanizing Co.
So .Mr. McAdoo ha- joined the procession ^and i going ("jjy f ARAGF
into the movies! Not that the former many
of the treasury means to be an actor, or even a manager; but,
he is entering the movie field just the same. It is stated that
he in to act as general counsel for the "Tiig Five" collectively
known by the Euphonious title of the United Artists Distri-
buting Association, and dealing in the cinematographic mas-
terpi< cea oi Mary Piekford, Charlie Chaplin. Douglas Fair- J
banks. David Griffith and Wi'liam S. IHrt. His salary is un jw>tk « 5,000 mile fuarmatee at
officially estimated at $100,000 a year. out-Wei If the coat of «w tires.
It was generally supposed that Mr. McAdoo would take|
the management of some great bank or manufacturing cor-
poration. After the responsibility that he carried during the
war, it might seem that no private job in the country would be
too big for him. It is not necessary to revise any such expec-
tation, but rather to revise many people's estimate of the]
moving picture business. Formerly a mere toy, it is now a.
business giant, able to command the services of the ablest men [
in the country.
