Yoang Men's Christian association is
Franee as a r~r l step toward breaking
the morale of toe armies facing them
on the west. Warning of this danger
was soanded by the Rev. Allan Mae-
Rosie, recently returned from the
eastern frost in France.
Dr. MacRossie was a member of
the clerical commission sent over to
learn the suintual needs of the Amer-
ican expeditionary forces and in that
capacity had opportunity to study the
methods of the Y. M. C. A. and to
.earn things at first hand. He said
that he did not hold a brief for the
Y. M. C. A-, for he felt that when an
organization hal received 150,000,-

nght to know about the work to
which they had contributed. His talk
was. fee said, a reply to unjust criti-
cism.
"Do you know, my friends, that
Germany has already begun to sing
its hjmr of hate against the Y. H.
C. A.?" he asked. "To tell you this
is in itself to show that the Y. M. C.

of those secretaries who are working
over there. The German guns are

huts, and every effort is being made
to smash them out of existence."
Aj recognition of the good that
grows out of the Y. M. C. A. Dr. Mac-
Rosise said the secretaries were still
in Russia waiting for the time when
their huts may be reopened.
"General Pershing said that a ring-
ing army is a victorious army. The
Y. M. C. A. sent over here and got
some of the best song writers to go to
France. These gave their services

Dr. MacRossie said he found two
classes of Y. M. C. A. critics. Those
who believed the association could do
better work by enlarging its field of
endeavor and those who thought the
would should be carried along the
purely religious lines of forty years
ago. He believed, he said, that both
classes of critics were sincere and
honest. "Being an outsider, I saw
the work as it semed to me, tfl be
broad, deep, wise, and understanding
of Christianity. On their return to
our land, I believe, these young men
will exert a strong, lasting influence
on our national life."
