AWAY WITH POLITICS
Apparently there is a wide chasm
tatwet-n the war department and cer-
tain members of the senate military
affairs committee. Senators Cham
beriajn, Hitchcock and Wadsworth,
tke latter a republican and the former
two democrats, asserted in cpeeches,
that Secretary Baker hah given the
public a false impression of our mili-
tary efficiency.
Secretary Baker refuted the state-
ments and now the public is as much
at aea as ever. If the senate commit-
tee is sincere and really wants to help
anprove things all well and good
Bat if it is just a move on the part
•f certain senators to embarrass the
adnini'tration and get into the little
light themselves away with all of it
Tlie nation is passing through
crisis and maximum efficiency is de
—nHed If Mr. Baker has done well
let him get the credit If he has
€allen down and the senate commitl
tee is right let us strive to remedy the
defence •
But let there be no petty politics
whether it be by republicans of strong
partisan tendencies or democrats who
have fallen out with the administra-
tion.
The Johnston County Capital-Dem-
ocrat, published at Tishomingo, the
home of Wm. H. Murray, says edi-
torially last week that its editor will
vote for Mr. Murray for governor but
will support no one. Which seems to
be preparing a nice, soft spot to light
on when the Murray band wagon
meets with disaster.

of defense.
A campaign of rigid law enforce-
ment against sedition has been
launched by the Oklahoma state coun-
cil of defense which has created and
will maintain throughout the war a
loyalty bureau." With thousands of
signers of loyalty pledges in the school
districts in Oklahoma and the admo-
nition of the state council of defense
to report to it every act or word of
disloyalty in Oklahoma, the necessity
for such a bureau was felt The
names of disloyal persons, the charges
supported, where possible, by two af-
fidavits, should be reported to the
loyalty bureau, Oklahoma State Coun-
cil of Defense, State House, Oklaho-
ma City.
