THE BOSTON STORE'S
KEEP IN TOUCH WITH YOUR
HOME MERCHANTS' LINES
A greater part of buying away from
home is done because people do not
keep in touch with their home mer-
chants' .wareB. The big mail order
.houses of the country hve swamped
the entire nation under a deluge Of
highly color-id cajalougues. They have
placed them in nearly every home,
and the people have become so edu-
cated to consulting catalogues befora
making a purchase that the home
merchants are not considered.
Too often people tako it for grant-
ed that the home merchant will not j
hare what they want, or that they
will #isk several times a catalog price. (
Such utter lack of consideration for,
the home merchant works an injus-
tice to both the home merchant and
the purchaser as well. The home
merchant is an asset to a community.
He is not a thief or a fly-by-night |
crook, or a grafter. The community;
is his permanent homa. he desires to I
live his life there, he wants to see
his community crow and keep pace!
with progress. So it is wholly un-
reasonable ta consider the home mer-
chant in any other light than that of j
honest business men. He studies his
community, knows its needs and pro-
videa for them.
It -may be that in some instances
the prices of the home merchants are
higher than catalogue prices, but peo-
ple must consider several features
of home buying that more than over_
come cheaper catalog buying.
In the first place, you see what you
are buying and have a variety to
choose from. You see exactly what
you are purchasing and n,ot having
something substituted, as the mail
order houses do when they have not
exactly what you want. You leave'
none of tho anxiety or worry that
goes With catalog buying, no freight,
express or postal loss. Aud further, *
he merchants stand behind what he *
sells you and has to meet you face to
face each day. so that if anything is T
wrong you can go direct to him and Y
K«t it straightened, -.there the mis- v
takes in catalogue buying takes weeks S
td straighten and often times are nev- X
c-r made right. T
But mora important still, by buy- t
ii.g at hom- you keep the wealth of ?
your community at home. And after J.
all, it is the wealth of a community V
that limits its progress. r
Get acquainted with your home J
merchant. Familiarize yourself with j.
bis wares and prices. Try to realize i
the vital importance of your commun- T
ity and buy at home. ❖
