Without affecting the certainty that
Wilson yesterday captured an over-
whelming majority of the electoral
vote a conservative estimate this af-
ternoon compelled to transfer to the
doubtful column some of the states
where the results had been recorded
as almost certain Among these were
Iowa and Minnesota and some of the
ultra-conservatives even inciuded Illi-
nois. Heavy reductions in the early
reports of large plurality for Roosevelt
in Kansas upset all calculations so
that Roosevelt's lead of Wilson has
narrowed to 625 votes on the returns
trc-m about one-fourth of the precincts
of that state.. In Illinois the heavy
Wilson vote outside of Cook county
has reduced Roosevelt's lead to about
15000. Tie Roosevelt supporters de-
clared at 3 o'clock this afternoon
that there was reason to put Ten-
nessee in the doubtful list.
