A thing of beauty is a toy forever:
Its loveliness increases; it will never
Pass into nothingness; but still will
keep
A bower epiiet for us and a sleep
Full of sweet dreams and health and
quiet breathing.
Th traditional dignity of "Jersey
.justice" has once more been vindi-
cated according to the latest returns
from Caldwell. James Martin a town
character described by the local ex-
peris as "a man of excellent family
hut who does odd jobs." was arraign-
ed
before Recorder Heller accused
having pilfered a lew trifles from
of
his
natrons.
Ten dollars or thirty days in jail."
said Reorder Heller after hearing
the evidence.
"You take that back" said Jimmy
Martin truculently.
"Ten dollars more and thirty day
for contempt of court" remarked the
recorder.
"Oh hell!" said Jimmy Martin.
"And $10 or thirty days more for
that contempt of court." said t he re-
corder. "Oh Heller" said Jimmy. He ap-
parently meant to be plaintive hut
the recorder did not take it that way.
"And $10 more or thirty days more
lor still more contempt of court" he
remarked wearily.
When finally they led Jimmy Mar-
tin limnlv to a prison cell he had
been sentenced to pay $00 or spend j
10 days in jail.
"When I f-'.et out" he said to the ;
turnkey ' I'm goinn in there and tell j
Fred Heller what I really think of j
him." Cleveland Plain Dealer.

saloon keeper ordered a drink and at
the same time drew a medium sized
shell glass from his coat pocket. The
bartender's surprise was o greeat he
nearly dropped to the floor and the
customers gasped with wide open
mouths while the hangers-on fell
back am Inst Hie wall.
"Fill 'er up again bartender:" said
the antiseptic man.
Just before start in?; to do as -o-ntanded
the bartender made for Hie
wa.ter trotuh to rinse the glass.
"No you don't bartender; hold on
tin re! that glass is not to be rinsed."
the "anti" further spake.
Well this .was almost the limit but
the bartender checked Ihe hand that
was making for the water trou;;h and
guided it to the beer spigot. He filled
it up and set it on the bar after which
he hurried away fogetting to get. his
money. He was too confused.
This man had been carrying his
own glass for two years now mid
when one breaks or gels smashed in
his pocket he buys another. Haiti-

During a local election in a Herman
town only one man appeared at the
nomination desk.
"Whom do you nominate?" inquired
the official.
"Myself" was the answer.
"Do you accept the nomination?"
"Well no."
"Then we must try again. Whom
do you nominate?"
"Myself."
"You accept the nomination?''
"No."
A subdued "Donneiwetter!" escap-
ed the lips of the perplexed official
but he went on :
"For the third time whom do you
nominate?"
"Myself" came the invariable reply.
"Do you accept the nomination?"
The man arose with a smile of sat
isfaction threading over his face as
he answered proudly:
"Having been three times solicited
by my fellow citizens to acept Ihe
nomination I can no longer decline to
accede to their wishes.'" Cincinnatti
