FINEST OPPORTUNITY EVER PRE-
SENTED FOR THOSE WHO DE-
SIRE TO START IN BUSINESS.
Oklahoma City Okla. Jan. 19.
Tim man in ftMahonia who wishe.;
lo tart in th' hog business will
now have an opportunity of doing
so with less cash than ever before
in the history of tin stale while al
the same time he can be assured
that his new slock will be proof
against the dreaded hoy; cholera
and cleaned and disinfected. This
is under a new quarantine procla-
mation drawn up by M. F. Ikard
superintendent of Live Stock Inspec-
tion working under the State Hoard
ot Agriculture.
Feed is scarce in various portions
of tiie state and young pins ami sows
arc finding their way to the Okla-
homa City stock y.i id . From a
coi unci c ill RtandpfiPt their value Is
no' nearly so much as it is from
tlie viewpoint of the swine-raiser
yet many 'aimers have felt compell-
ed to sell on account of scarcity of
Iced. In other portions of the state
there are many farmers who liavs
more or less corn. kalTir or oth?r
feed who would be glad to set
young piss or piggy sows if they
could hi seemed reasonably.
Kiiowinur til it it would be a bud
thins; for the state if these animal.';
were simply slaughtered instead of
i.c ing kept to increase the produc-
tion later on .Mr. Ikard conceived
the plan of having a pen set aside
at the National Stock Yards at Ok-
lahoma City where all hoge sold for
the purpose of being delivered within
thp s:ate should be placed vaccinated
wiih pure hog' cholera serum un-
der the direct suKTVision of an ex-
pert from the state A. & M. College
at Stillwater kept for a period of
from six to ten days and then dip-
ped once in arsenical solution made
under his direction.
When the animals have been de-
clared tree from disease they may
lie shipped out in ears or wagons
that have been cleaned and disiu-
i fected so that they should reach the
buyer in first class condition. The
managers of the Oklahoma City
packing plants are co-operating with
the Hoard of Agriculture as they re-
alize what great harm it would do
the state to turn all the small pigs
am! sows into pork and Its various
by products.
A large clean pen has been set
aside at the stockyards and Mr.
Ikard is ready to commence opera-
tions It is exai-cted that numer-
ous requests will come in for the
stxik in question and that this move
will prove effectual in preventing the
depletion of the Oklahoma hogs
which was so greatly feared on ac
omit of unfavorable conditions in
some portions of the state.

K THE "NUMBER-PLEASE"
:: GIRL.
8 O
tf::nnn::Batiatj3n
llcently the Times took occasion
to call attention to the fact that s
few people seemed to have any
"please" in their vocabularies.. In
calling attention to this little amen-
ity between members of all good so-
ciety we haw a .weened no linle
discussion and nu n as well as women
are asking: ""Are we losinu our
manners?"
Our mot hers I. night that 'Pretty
is as pretty does" and it seems to
us that in language as well as act-
ion we are wont lo forget these things
in our association with the public 63-
IKcially In the business world.
Few people seem to realize th.it
there is a human being at the other
end of the line when the- take clown
a receiver to ask central for the num-
ber; but act as though they thought
central jusl a piece ol machinery to
be "rased" or even svurn at if the
call is not Immediately answered.
True all of us fel at times we have
reason for being pert smart and even
ill-mannered and all because for somo
reason the call does not immediateb
reach the young woman who is "cen-
tral." "Number please" is the response
that comes promptly when yo't hrve
taken clown the receiver providing
all works perfectly. The voice Is veil
modulated even sweet. It has come
to be thus by much training in;i in-
struction. To many of us ii is suffi-
cient to put us in a good humor ?en
if we do feed irrated when we 'alio
down tiie receiver.
Did it ever occur to you ;h:r. it
costs much time trouble an 1 even
money to train young ladies by the
score and even by the hundr -d--ai.il
train them to be prompt courteous
nbliging and to be polite and sweet
in word and voice'. Well it dees II
it took n second to say'nui'.iler'
would it not take practically twice as
long to say "number please?" II
this is true then can you not s. that
it takes more girl" io render pulit
service than it does to simpty rr- cie
efficient service--.'
One other thing. Did o ever
notice how little trouble the business
man. professional man or any kind
of a gentleman has with his phono
and how promptly he gets just what
lie wants how sweet tempered the
response to him is and bow he al-
wavs keeps sweet? Well there is
in all the world a disposition to
fight-back when the fur is rubbed
the wrong way. If you take down
the receiver and in a brusk harsh
tone demand a number don't you
know that you have irritated the
"number please" girl? She may be
trained to go on about the work and
ignore your impudence bill ri her
in ind and heart you do not deserve to
be treated civilly.
If you have been in the habit ol
beiiif; crusty to the "number-please"
girl try giving the number promptly.
civilly and in a sweet-tempered voire
responding in the affirmative when
she repeats the number after you
and you will be surprised how milch
bettor you will feel for your co
operation to that end. It pavs to
be civil even to central. Oklahoma

No political party ever remained
long the majority party in a city
county or state when eer'wiii leaders
in that party beg in to consider them
selves greater than the party itself.
History has proven this time and
again in the past and while Okla-
homa is safely democratic tlie epies-
tion arises will she continue so if tlie
party leaders continue to engage in
factional fights and direct their guns
against members of their own party
Instead of the common enemy?
The present is not the time to pub-
ly air party grievances.
With the socia'ists gaining ground
at every election and their mission-
aries engaged in proselyting demo
crats on every hand and the repub
licans forming a perfect organization '
through the siate every democrat must
stand loyal. Personal grievances must
he forgotten and factional strife erad-

found in the ranks bravely and pa-
triotically fighting for the success of
the democrat party.
