Immediately After the Merida Wa
Rammed Passengers Were Trans-
ferred to the Faragut Also Dam.

New York N. V.. May 12. The
steamship Merida wlih two hundred
and seven passengers from Havana
for this city was rammed by the
steamer Farragnt off Can Charles
shortly after midnight.
The Merida's passengers and crew
were traasferred to the Farragnt af-
ter the less of their haggage. Five
hours later tho Merida sank.
The Farragut too was so abd-
ly damaged that after the wire-
less calls for .assistance the passen-
gers were transferred to tho steamer
Hamilton which came alongside. Tho
Hamilton started then for Norfolk.

Train Strike Auto.
Muskogee Okla. May 11. Dr. A. W.
Heed a wealthy citizen of Muskosee
who formerly lived at Checotah and
his brother-in-law Robert Julian a
druggist of Porum Okla. were killed
this afiernoon five miles west of here
by being strurk by the westbound
Filsro passenger train. Reed and
Tulian were In an automobllo looking
some farm land. They started

lifting It off tho track and swashing
It to pieces. Julian's skull was crush-
ed and he was killed Instantly. Reed
lived nearly an hour. The train crew
picked up tho men placed them in
the baggage car and backed up to the
city. Reed was rushed to the hospital
dying soon after he reached there.

Manlago license were Issued yester-
day to J. L. Klmbrell aged G4. to Mrs.
M. F. Smith aged 50. Both are resi-
dents of Hewitt.

and telegraph lines destroyed and
residents killed off with monotonous
regularity while in many Instances
the federal troops stand by helpless.

fast becoming a greater menace to
the federal government than Madero's

planned political demonstrations. Pre-
cautionary measures have leen taken

Huffman took the snake from Mrs.
Osteen and his touch evidently broke
the upell of the woman's audacity

dart of his hid sank his fangs into
the back of Huffman's hand. It look

Jaws aiiart and make tho wicked

that tlmo Huffman was pale and
weak lie was rushed In the wagon to
Hugoton where medical aid was sum-
moned but his body swelled to twice
its normal size. He has a chance of

APPEAL FOR FUNDS.
To Defend McNamara Federation of
Labor Issues Call.
Washington May 11. The Ameri-
can Federation of Labor has Issued an
appeal for funds for the defense of tho
McNamara brothers in jail In Lo An-
geles charged with dynamiting. The
executive cuncll of the federation will
receive tho funds and disburse them.
If necessary It is said the caes will
be taken to the highest court of the
country.
The appeal for funds states that the
accused labor leaders are In jail as a
result of a "vindictive spirit of ier-
secutlon" and that with the forces of
wealth arrayed against them they
may not have a fair trial.
