SHALL MUSIC BE TAUGHT?
The School Board Intimated That
the Music Department in the
Schools Would be Discon-
tinued.
Some time ago'the Board of Edu-
cation intimated that the music de-
partment in the public schools would
be discontinued and to that end no
music teacher was hired. Since
that time there has been consider-
able comment on the part of the
many patrons of the schools but no
concerted action has been taken nor
has the board been solicited to con-
tinue the department. Yesterday a
prominent citizen called a reporter's
attention to the splendid showing of
the music department in the com-
mencement exercises and thought it
would be a mighty good thing for
the schools to continue the teachinc
of the art of music. |
An investigation revealed the fact
that on a recent written test was
given in music, beginning with the
second grade and including all grade
above that. The average grade- of
over seventy per cent of the pupils
were above ninety and less than five
Per cent were below seventy.
This would Indicate that a consid-
erable interest was taken in music
by the pupils of the grades in Bar-
tlesville, and that the department
should be continued.

Senator R. L. Owen, of Oklahoma
vho predicts that the insurgents and
Democrats in congress will control
next House of Representative
and organize the House. In a re-
cent speech before the American
uvic Alliance on the subject of "in-
surgents and What They Represent.'
Senator Owen made an impassioned
Plea for the elimination of bosBism.
He cites Senator Hale's coining re-
signation as an indication of the
trend of Americans against bossism
saying that the resignation is forc-
ed by Hale's knowledge that he can,
not be re-elected because his consti-
tuents are tired of boss legislation.
