The astonishing thing about the

was made to the "culminating atroc-

nurses are mostly drawn from the
ranks of city civilization. An unfort-
unate inmate was found dead there the
other day and an inquest was held. A
post mortem examination disclosed
factsjstatrd by the operating physical! as
follows: "1 found a bruise in the
forhead one ami a half inches in {diam-
eter, in the skin only. The skin over
the front of the chest was black and
blue. The breast bone was broken in
two places. The ribs from the second
to the tenth on the right sitle were
broken, the fourth, fifth, and sixth ribs
each being broken in two places. (>n
the left side the ribs from the third to
the tenth were broken, the seventh rib
in two places. The right side of the
cheast contained a pint of blood ami
the left cheast four ounces. The ab-
domen contained six ounces of blood.
Otherwiso the organs of the body were
healthy." This wreckage was shown to
be the work of an attendant in the ex-
ercise of his brief authority. The jury
returned a perfunctory verdict that the
man was dead, but they were unable
to determine when and where he re-
ceived the injuries which killed him.
The murder is in jail, but as his oppor-
tunity to kill resulted from a political
appointment there is no likehood of
his being punished.

Dear .Son, you complain of the great
